Pelosi fails to deliver: Republicans control House

Post by _bcspace »

Despite greater than expected turnout for Obama, looks like Democrats only move the needle by about three seats. Looking forward to mid-terms when the President's party typically suffers. Hey, if the economy has a good bump by then on it's way down, we can always remind Obama in his own words and by his own logic; "You didn't build that!"

The take here is that likely the majority (small) of Americans are generally opposed to Democrat policies. However, since many of them are bought, it's just a little harder to switch to a President who doesn't promise them money (or citizenship). Call it home field advantage which is basically the only explanation for why Obama won.

C'mon bscpace. We've already seen that unskewing is crap. Don't try to unskew the election returns.

Democrats got their asses kicked on redistricting. That's why you see so little changeovers in the house, especially in a close presidential election.

I suspect the real rejection that's happening is rejection of the Tea Party. They've cost the republicans control of the Senate in the last two elections. It will be interesting to see what the house Tea Party caucus looks like in the next session.

This is the correct answer.

Democrats tended to win where no gerrymandering was possible -- statewide elections for senators and president.

Numbers are still being sorted out, but it looks like the Democrats actually won the total house election popular vote, yet the Republicans own a very significant edge in seats. This acts as a measure of how deep the Republican gerrymandering advantage really is.
