I do see a difference. Tarski invoked bath room humor, but I don't see it as incredibly offensive.

Being a model, even a fashion model, is in most senses dependant on the objectification of sexuality. Some of it is about the way the clothes lie on models of different body types, but mostly sex sells. Conversely why do you rarely see a size 14 fashion model?

That we do objectify models is hardly justification of it.

Then why models at all, why not adrogynous manequins? Excuse my spelling.

People who attend runway shows are not thinking about sex. Many men attend these shows and they do not have erections while watching.

Again Zee it is somewhat inherent. Why skinny, attractive models and not fat ugly ones if it is just about the clothes?

You don't find them attractive...

You didn't need to put the word "ugly" in that sentence.

I wish some clothes were modeled using people of different sizes. That sweater you see at Land's End (Sears) is actually pinned behind the manikin. It is pinned because people like the look of sweaters that narrow at the waist. I don't think it is sex they are selling. I think it is an ideal.

Well beauty and ugly are somewhat subjective, but all cultures have an ideal. That ideal has some universal roots. Would you have preferred "asymmetrical"?

Steelhead,

I have been responding to your earlier comment:

I am arguing that being a fashion model is not dependent on the objectification of sexuality. My sister was one and I watch runway shows. I do not see models the way you describe. I do not see it solely as a "sex sells" mentality. Fashion models are not used to sell sex. They are used to sell clothing.
