Would it have been better for Mormonism if he had, like many other presidential candidates?

Heck no. Obama represents Liberalism which is everything the Church stands against.

I see your point.

The Church wasn't involved in the campaign. However, the Church is involved in conversion which is open to liberals.

In the context of this thread - which is about why Romney could not be bothered to turn up to congratulate the democratically elected President, while his running mate did - so what?

Indeed. So what if Romney didn't show up?

SALT LAKE CITY —
The First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued the following statement Tuesday:

We congratulate President Obama on winning a second term as President of the United States.

After a long campaign, this is now a time for Americans to come together. It is a long tradition among Latter-day Saints to pray for our national leaders in our personal prayers and in our congregations. We invite Americans everywhere, whatever their political persuasion, to pray for the President, for his administration and the new Congress as they lead us through difficult and turbulent times. May our national leaders reflect the best in wisdom and judgment as they fulfill the great trust afforded to them by the American people.

We also commend Governor Romney for engaging at the highest level of our democratic process, which, by its nature, demands so much of those who offer themselves for public service. We wish him and his family every success in their future endeavors.

Agreed. I wonder how many other losing candidates did not attend the inauguration? Anyone know?

Romney just seems to have vanished from the public scene since he lost.

I think we should focus more on the things we have in common, bcspace. Building bridges and all that.

For example, both you and I reject the teachings and policies of the LDS Church. What other things might we have in common?

I detect no neutral ground between us. However, I enjoy my wife's fried chicken (I do the mashed potatoes) and enchiladas. If you like the same, perhaps we can break bread together.
