For example, both you and I reject the teachings and policies of the LDS Church. What other things might we have in common?
I detect no neutral ground between us. However, I enjoy my wife's fried chicken (I do the mashed potatoes) and enchiladas. If you like the same, perhaps we can break bread together.
So, what was it that made you reject the Church's official doctrine on the global flood and no death before the Fall? Was it the insurmountable weight from every pertinent field of study against it? Me, too!
How about the Church's professed political policies? Why did you reject them? Was it because your political dogma trumped the Church's official statements?
I'm not sure Romney should have attended. If he had, some small fraction of the cameras and public attention would have been focused on him, and how he is taking it all in stride that it's not him up behind the bullet-proof glass swearing in as the President. This was Obama's day, not Romney's. Romney had his 15 minutes, and they lapsed on Nov. 6, 2012.
Ryan attended, and that's fine. Ryan's still in Congress, while Romney is just one more private citizen.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen
Agreed. I wonder how many other losing candidates did not attend the inauguration? Anyone know?
Romney just seems to have vanished from the public scene since he lost.
I read this morning that it's the first time in something like 24 years that loser hasn't attended the winner's inauguration. But unlike most losing candidates, Romney has no real ties to D.C. The last two losers were McCain and Kerry; I think they were both senators. It makes sense that a sitting senator would attend.

You're right. Romney could always credibly claim financial hardship as a reason for not attending.
If only he could have found a way to write off the fuel expenditure for his private jet.
If only...

Petulance is such an admirable quality in a President. Shame he didn't win.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

The last one who didn't attend was Dukakis. Maybe it's something about Massachusetts governors.

You're right, most, if not all, of the previous attenders were in the Senate or out going vice presidents. But hey, who has a friend say "I'm going to ignore it."
We should start a political PR firm.
Romney issued the following statement: "My family joins me in congratulating President Obama on his upcoming inauguration. It's his day and my family and I will be watching him together. We wish him the best."
Instead of, "he probably won't even watch it on TV."

Yeah, a number of indicators point to the possibility that Romney is just a sore loser. This is just the latest.
