Deconstructing Mormonism for a grand
About a month ago Cinepro mentioned the book Deconstructing Mormonism. I found it on amazon for about $30 and ordered it. Yesterday I received a notice from amazon that the book was no longer available from the seller and I could try to re-order from a different seller.
When I clicked on the link I found the book has skyrocketed. Used versions are priced from just under $500 all the way up to $1,200.

What could possibly have happened in the past month to cause the increase in price? Is Kerry Shirt's endorsement that powerful? If so I'm hiring him.

I put off buying it because I had a stack of unread books!!!

I cashed out my retirement and bought numerous copies to sell thirty years down the road.

I got it, used, out of London, through Amazon.de, just a few weeks ago.
It cost around €40.00. Not really cheap, but it has disappeared now it seems.
Haven't dug in too far yet.

I have no doubt that the publisher is scurrying to print more editions if used copies are selling for that much. Cheaper copies will be available soon, I would guess.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

I had the same experience Willy. I originally ordered it on Amazon, but the order was canceled because they never got any in stock. I bought it again from a marketplace seller on Barnes and Noble for a little over $50. A few days later the seller contacted me and said the book was shipped but returned damaged and that the seller would issue a refund. That is BS. The seller realized the price had shot up and didn't want to sell it to me for the agreed upon price. Now I am fighting the seller and B&N to get: (1) the allegedly damaged book or (2) proof that it was shipped and damaged (some kind of shipping receipt along with pictures of the damaged book.

I doubt it Quasi. There is not really enough demand for that book to justify a new printing run. I have been trying to buy a copy of Lucy's Book: A Critical Edition of Lucy Mack Smith's Family Memoir for several years now but the price has always been over $150.00, sometimes much higher.

My goto place for hard to find books is Powell's in Portland, OR
http://www.powells.com/
Their inventory is about 2.5 million and carry just about every title under the sun. If you do a search by ISBN number and it's out of stock, you can put an order in the system for it. When they get a copy, new or used, you'll get a notice it's available. Their price has always been cost plus usual markup; they don't jack up the price just because it's out of print. The last OOP I bought there was 20 bucks plus shipping when other sellers were asking 150+.
Powell's buys used books by the thousands every day.....Sometimes it takes a while if it's OOP but they've always come through for me.
If ever in Portland....it's an awesome place to visit.

Good stuff Arrakis, thanks,
They have it on backorder for $29. I'll give it a shot

Glad I could help and hope they get you one soon. If they can't, it won't cost you anything so there's nothing to lose......
