i didn't listen to the talk, so i assume he meant we should avoid the trap of thinking it's sufficient to merely tolerate our fellow humans, when Jesus taught that we need to go further and love them unconditionally.

is that about what he said?

Little else need be said here, except that this is one of the places where the gospel rubber meets the Babylonian road and where we "choose ye this day" that which we are willing to recieve, the degree to which we will follow the Lord's living oracles, and the level of comittment and conversion we are willing to develop and nurture regarding the restored gospel.

How is that a body blow to the Right when the Right never objected to it? However, if I were them, I would have waited til the last prayer of the last session to keep more of them in tune to what they really should be listening to.

Back in the 50s I'm sure there was a BC Space who thought Mark E Peterson's racist talks were pretty awesome. Today those talks are an embarassment that most members distance themselves from and drfensively argue "that was just jis opinion." The same thing will happen when future generations read about Packer's "we're not tolerant" talk.

It's funny to watch them want to take his comments as authoritative because it fits with their worldview, and ignore other comments by church leaders that don't. The left will do the same, and they realize BKP is a fossil of old ideas best left to die.
