speaking of Mormons
Late last night (8ish, which is late for us old couple), the doorbell rings. We have a habit of not answering the door, because those we know call before coming over. A late knock at the door means either magazine sales people or Mormons. So, we ignored it. But no, whoever was there decided the doorbell must not work and so knocked loud and long, like they were being chased by wolves and needed assistance. So, not wanting to deny assistance to anyone being chased by wolves, I answered it.
Lo and behold, standing there are two young people, a man and woman, who ask for my non-Mormon (never baptized) daughter, BY NAME.
Mormons: Does Beautiful Daughter live here?
Me: Yes, she does.
Mormons: We're from the LDS singles ward, and wanted to drop by and see how she is doing because we haven't seen her in a while. (LIE)
Me: (Thinking, BS chickie-poo, you've never seen Beautiful Daughter.) I say, She isn't LDS.
Mormons: Are you sure, she is on our records?
Me: (Thinking, why? she is many years past 18, even though I did have her blessed over two decades ago.) I say, "She has never been baptized."
Mormons: Oh, we'll make a note of that.
Me: (Thinking, "you do that".) close the door.
So, I was both amused and creeped out. Thinking on it, I believe it was a snoopy visit to determine if Beautiful Daughter still lived at home. But it also reminded me of the compound Mormons from "Big Love".

Being a Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction -Pope Benedict XVI

You missed a golden opportunity to say, "No, she joined the church of Satan and has never been happier. Any other questions?"
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Well, we have a huge cross hanging just inside our front door. (3 ft. tall or so), that she was looking at while snooping (instead of me). I don't know what any individual Mormon thinks of crosses, but in general I get the idea that as a group, they are uncomfortable around them, and she looked like my pretty cross was making her uncomfortable.
It was a very weird event.

Yeah, more seriously, this whole visit sounds extremely disingenuous to me. They wanted to make it sound like they were sitting around last Sunday discussing the serious topic of your daughter's absence and brainstorming ways to make it better, rather than going through a list of names and assigning contact meetings to people.

Next time, leave them to the wolves.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

That is why the whole interaction felt so creepy and weird. They weren't being up front about their motives or intentions, but had concocted a prepared dialogue to get information...and I gave it to them. I feel so violated!

With the increased numbers of missionaries, I would expect this to happen again.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Hey Madeleine!
"Beautiful daughter" hasn't recently taken a cruise to Israel, has she!?!?
by the way, a three foot cross! Wow, that's a big one!
Peace,
Ceeboo

She has not, but you may have seen her at the local Starbucks.
The cross is a gift from my atheist husband! It looks very nice and I really like it.
