While the church cannot be forced to recognize same-sex marriages from a religious standpoint, its non-profit arms (e.g., BYU) could absolutely face the choice been accepting gay married persons or losing tax exempt status. I suspect the church would go the way of Bob Jones University - which once discriminated against intermarriage.

Let's now add that the Spouse who was deployed was wounded and is now incapable of having sexual intercourse.
Remember, Legally and Lawfully Married, Incapable of having Sexual Intercourse, but still a very committed and loving couple.
