Most news sources have been reporting that Las Vegas got up to 117° yesterday.

Heat Wave Continues

Southern Nevada is in for another day of extreme heat today. The National Weather Service predicts a high today of 116 in Las Vegas, a degree shy of yesterday's 117. That reading tied the city's all-time record high dating back to 1942 and 2005.

The official temperature in Las Vegas hit 117 degrees Sunday afternoon, tying the all-time high-temperature record for the area, the National Weather Service said.

Las Vegas also reached 117 degrees in July 1942 and July 2005.

The 117 mark was recorded about 4:50 p.m. Sunday near McCarran International Airport, the official recording station for Las Vegas temperature. That breaks the June record of 116 degrees, set in 1940, the weather service said.

Since weather records began in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1937, it has never been hotter than today – when it sizzled to 117 degrees. Only one other day in recorded history could match this heat: July 24, 1942.

UPDATE: The new record report (preliminary, pending certification) for June 30th, today does show that the temperature reached 117F:

According to accuweather.com, the hottest time of year in Las Vegas is from July 15th to July 25th.

I did, but posted anyway because its utterly irrelevant to the both the shoddy reporting, the failure to mention historic highs well in the past of the same magnitude, and the fact that local weather conditions are not evidence for or against AGW.
