For those who want to pay "less" but still have a POWER mid-ranged laptop, you can't beat this deal.

ASUS A55VD-NS51
Intel Core i5 3230M(2.60GHz)
6GB Memory 500GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce GT 610M
1366 x 768
Windows 8 64-Bit
DL DVD+-RW/CD-RW

$549

I was actually going to get this, but then I got curious how much I could get for a good deal with the money I had. If I hadn't found the one I got, I would have gotten this one.

If you still want to spend a little less, and don't need such good features, go into the general laptop section and then on the right sidebar you can select your price and the minimum features you want. It's REALLY easy and nice that thing....

That will help you find a good "student" laptop, browsing, word processing, low end games, for ya around $350 or even less.

What brand would you get at this low level? I'm a Dell man myself but I have heard ASUS, Samsung, and Lenovo are the best in this range.

Really there is little difference between "brands" other than maybe Dell being the over-all most reliable. But I don't think you can get a Dell for under $300? What makes reliability is the product itself. Sometimes a laptop will work great forever no problems, sometimes one model will have problems, or you might just get a bad one that needs to be returned or doesn't last.

I have a $500 Walmart special that I've had 5 years now, and it's been wonderful to me. It had Vista on it which made is junk and slow, so I put XP on it and been happy with it since. It's been through everything with me. But, I had to upgrade because of my coming plans/projects and because Chrome and FireFox are such CRAP browsers, alway's crashing, freezing etc. because of bad resource usage that I can't even use them for more than 30 min's. I actually however use Maxthon, which is the better browser of any of them, problem is there are few plugins (used to be with their Classic version now obsolete), and I need plugins to do various work and otherwise things. I don't really want to switch, because I hate also the way Chrome works also, how they don't implement simple browser functionality like double clicking tabs and 15 other important basic modern browser actions. There's talk Maxthon might actually start supporting Chrome plugins, which would be good, trying to find that out.

Anyway, what you need to do is just go to NewEgg like I said, and use the sidebar tool, find the ones that look good in feature and price, and then read the reviews. The reviews help a lot in deciding. The one I got the reviews are "iffy" on two things, so I'm taking a chance and hoping I'm one of the lucky ones. I decided to risk it given the product and price. If I don't like it, I can always get my money back. I will be doing a full test regimen...

Again, if you want to spend the money, get the one above, it should be good.

Anyway.... Go for it.

Well, I got screwed again.... The Acer had a bad wireless card also, same "dropping" problem, and it also turned out to be know by the Vender once I mentioned it. It also apparently had a bad webcam also, the grain was like from cheap webcams from 5+ years ago, but it was supposed to be 720p HD.

So, I just returned it also, didn't want to bother.

I have found another great deal, which 3rd time should be the charm.

Toshiba Satellite P70-ABT2G22
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cde ... 2000099419

Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ quad core processor
Windows 8
12GB DDR3L memory
1.0TB; Hybrid 8G SATA hard disk drive
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M with Optimus™
DVD SuperMulti Drive
1920x1080 TruBrite display
Intel® Centrino Wireless-N 2230, 2X2 BGN + WiDi + Bluetooth
HD webcam
LED backlit keyboard
HDMI output with 4K capability
Starting at 6.6 lbs

Add a Blue-Ray RE (writer) upgrade $40 or so and use this discount code "DEFDEALS700" which expires today apparently 9/7/2013 and your Total will ONLY BE $1,078.68...!!!! Upgrade the wireless also for another $20 or so.

You will save $519.98...!!! But without the discount code you still pay only $70.00 more which apparently expires 9/9 unless it's extended. Still the best deal for features.

This is really the money I should spend, I want to get this because it seems to finally be a truly good deal, but given all my troubles and "lusts", I'm actually thinking about getting my dream computer for only about $600-700 more.

Sager NP8295
http://www.lpc-digital.com/sager-np8290-features.html

I'm going to upgrade to a Glossy screen on it, SSD drive, 7400 backup, dual band wireless, 12GB Mem, & Blue-ray right-wing, and I will have the computer of my dreams and can likely keep it for 10 years, maybe upgrading it some in between.

So, I'm torn..... I was thinking about the Sager 7370, but it's essentially the same features as the Toshiba, just slightly better, but not worth it for the price so I'm going with this Sager. But, I have to make a decision today do I go with the Sager, or the Toshiba? With the Sager, I will get everything I need and want, and can upgrade. With the Toshiba, I will get most of what I want, but not perfect, and can upgrade some likely.
