Mission pres suggests apostates will be trodden to death?
Read this guy's post to the end. Don't know if it's true. If it is....Wow.

The last exchange sounded very condescending. Not the kind of tone you would expect from a disciple of Christ.

I know. The whole "as an added bonus" line. Stay classy, Prez.

My thoughts too. Actually handled pretty well on both sides up to the last exchange. I'm sure there were more exchanges than were posted also, that were probably also handled well or we would have heard about it. But up to the last obligatory condescending response, it seemed like he pretty well accepted that he wasn't interested in coming back and didn't want to waste both of their time.

The "added bonus" line really bothered me, too. It's almost as if the MP is a secret Danite making a death threat. I checked out the MP online, and he's obviously a very successful man, but his reference to apostates being trodden down until death, is way over the line, in my opinion. The MP's file leader needs to talk with him and inform him that high-profile leaders in the Church (and I think this would include MP's) cannot speak to anyone that way. The guy is on a power trip and must be reigned in.renewed wrote:I know. The whole "as an added bonus" line. Stay classy, Prez.

Does this ever happen though?

Only when the Church is publicly humiliated.
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)

Not as much as it should. Perhaps this former member should report the MP to the police for making a death threat? Now that would reign in the MP very quickly, in my opinion.MsJack wrote:Does this ever happen though?Rollo Tomasi wrote:The guy is on a power trip and must be reigned in.

I've known Kurt (the mission president) for years. The Kurt I used to know is definitely not the Kurt who wrote those letters.
I remember many years ago, Kurt's daughter died in a horrific accident: http://articles.latimes.com/2001/aug/30/local/me-40027
Kurt has never been the same since, which is completely understandable. This tragedy also drove him much deeper into the Church where he was able to find great solace. I wonder if maybe his tone of harshness in the letters is a reflection and belief that he has to try everything possible to "save" this individual.

That was truly awful; I have a great deal of sympathy for him and his wife; no one should have to go through that.Everybody Wang Chung wrote:I've known Kurt (the mission president) for years. The Kurt I used to know is definitely not the Kurt who wrote those letters.

I'll cut Kurt a break, but his bringing up Alma 30:59-60 to suggest this would be the ultimate destiny of the former member he was trying to "save," was way out of line, especially for a MP.Kurt has never been the same since, which is completely understandable.
