Imagine if 1/3 the wishful think being applied to the Honduras story were applied to JSJr's claims. There wouldn't be any ex-Mormons.
I think you know this is not true. The Book of Abraham proves Joseph was a fraud, and there is a lot more evidence that supports this. The problem is how to get them to be open minded about information that is seen as anti to LDS truth claims. These essay's do just that. Some are recognizing the church has not been honest in the past, which tends to create more open minds to information critical of LDS truth claims. Before this it was only the brave who dared.
The problem with the Honduras story is that we have no way to confirm it. It is very plausible. We see many examples of people reacting negatively to this kind of information. They can easily see that this is no way for anyone to act, and worse to claim God told them to.

Which Joseph Smith Jr's claims? Men on the moon? 14 year olds are fair game for sex? God wants Emma to shut her gob and get in line?
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)
You keep lecturing me on my department's form and function. I would expect you to know what the department actually is.
Bazooka wrote:So you were lying when you said the SECTION couldn't do foreign translation of the essays because of priorities such as Meet the Mormons etc.
You know I wasn't lying. I was suggesting possible priorities that could have stood in the way of beginning translation while I waited to find out if translation had begun or not.

Do you ever get tired of being wrong?
Here's what you said:
Important enough" is an absolutely meaningless appeal to relativity. Sure, if it were important enough the Church would nothing else but translate the Church essays. If it was important enough, they'd just dedicate all their resources to translating your riveting commentary. You have absolutely no idea how many different things of how many different levels of priority come before translation services every single day. You have no idea how many different things are published every single day around the world by the Church digitally and in print. Every time you have tried to guess about some aspect of Church translation, you've been entirely wrong, and yet you continue to hazard these grotesquely ignorant guesses. I've mentioned some of the things I am at liberty to talk about, but most of the most pressing and important stuff are things I can't talk about. You know absolutely none of this, which is why you feel at liberty to just bark these baseless comments about being "important enough."
Yet now it's deemed important enough, like I said it should be. It's you who should be tired of getting things wrong.

Even you know that's a laughable misrepresentation.
And yet the facts support my narrative rather than yours, and you supposedly work in that department!

Honestly, have you not been any attention at all? No facts support your narrative. You've been wrong each and every time you've speculated about something. All you have is assumption and speculation about the intentions and motivations of people you don't even know.

And yet, for all your blathering, the section is now doing what I said it should be doing, whilst you on the other hand were busy making lame excuses for why it wasn't able to. I've been right every single time. I said they were letting the members down and should be translating the essays. You said they were too busy. Guess what, they're doing the translating like I said they should. I'm getting the strong impression from your persistent failure to get the facts straight, that you don't actually work in that department at all!
