Christmas day, 2007, San Francisco.
A Siberian tiger was being taunted by a man...who was eventually killed by said tiger, then this same tiger escaped eventually to be killed by authorities.
In this primary situation, a normal and reasonable person would not "blame" the tiger per se, but would rather say something about the "taunter" like - "that idiot, he asked for it".
Kinda like the old story about the scorpion and the frog.
So, what is the real difference here?
I mean, i often comment to my children about crossing the street in a bold and entitled manner - sure, you have the right of way and engaging in a game of chicken with a moving vehicle is admirable...and you would surely have the law on your side....but you would still have been hit by a multi-ton vehicle.
So, what is the gain here?....what value is in "taunting"?....if it is preaching to the choir then to what end is that? (i cannot rationalize how 'taunting' would be beneficial to the taunt-ee)
So, yes - the tiger was a bit excessive in its reaction, but the taunting man surely was aware of the dangers involved...which makes the conclusion of his taunting less than a sympathetic tragedy and more of a mockable tragedy.
Do not misunderstand my position, i am not attempting to condone the violent actions of the tiger or the islamic radicals....but the freedom to touch a scorpion does not merit an expression of outrage and a call for sympathy when that scorpion stings you.
So, the smart man does not provoke, taunt, or mock the scorpion...the smart man promptly squashes it underfoot.
