How to keep a testimony of Santa Claus

Post by _deacon blues »

This might sound mocking, but I mean it sincerely. If you were 6 going on 7 how would you keep your testimony/belief in Santa Claus? First you start with a belief in Santa and your parent probably encourage it, but how would you go from there? If older friends mocked you how would you respond.

I never attempted to hold on to my belief of Santa any longer than I did my god belief.

Doesn't it say something about a belief if any attempt is ever made to "hold onto it?" I've never had to hold onto a belief that I need a certain amount of sleep, or that the world rotates on an axis. I needn't think about it, because those beliefs are solid. And when I do reconsider those kinds of beliefs for whatever reason, I think, yes, those beliefs are solid.

How good can faith be (as a truth finding mechanism) if it's fragile, and constantly needs to be reinforced?
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Anti-Clausites are just bitter ex believers who want to sin.
“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

Or were offended by the Krampus.
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco
- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

It helps to have a goofy apologist dad like myself who would answer the logical questions like how could Santa see if you were good or bad when he lives at the North Pole? I would say something nonsensical like he had a super special telescope that he could see every child with no matter how far away he lived. I kept his belief alive a little longer than he would have had otherwise until his shelf finally collpapsed no matter what I said.
