On the night of 21 October 1991, a Yugoslavian Soko J-22 Orao mistakenly dropped two BL755 Mk.3 bombs on the outskirts of Barcs, a small city in southernmost part of Hungary, causing extensive material damage, but no casualties. The incident led to an emergency upgrade of the Hungarian Air Force, which obtained 28 new MiG-29B fighter jets in exchange for a write-off of ex-Soviet state debt. The Hungarian government also invited NATO's E-3 AWACS planes to patrol over the Lake Balaton area, keeping a constant radar eye on the Balkan civil war theatre.
The correct date is 27 October.

BELGRADE Yugoslavia (AP) _ A Yugoslav warplane bombed a Hungarian village in the first instance of Yugoslavia's 4-month-old war spilling over its borders. Serbia's foreign minister on Monday called the attack an accident.

Serious damage but no casualties were reported when a cluster bomb was dropped Sunday on Barcs, a border village far from the front where Yugoslavia's Serb-dominated federal army has been battling secessionist Croat militiamen.

Part of the state of Utah was downwind of open air nuclear testing for years. So we were bombed by our own country. It isn't the horror of cluster bombs or white phosphorus. Was it a price to pay for national security?

Soviet Union did the same, even they used soldiers for test subjects. The "battle" casualties were between 50 and 100...

There are bombings all the time in the U.S. but not by other countries, the closest I can remember was when four airliners got hijacked and flown into both towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and some field in Pennsylvania.

Back in 1969, about 70,000 sheep were nerve gassed around 75 miles from where I live. Scary stuff.

Our border patrol, as I understand it, foils Muslim initiated plots to create mayhem on a regular basis. Sort of like the game Bop-a-Mole. You swat them, but they keep popping up.

September 11, 2001.

True, 747's aren't combat aircraft like the vaunted J-22 Orao. But the results were a lot more deadly.

Before that there was the canonaiding of Southern cities during the Civil War. The Revolutionary War saw the destruction of some cities. There were also some nasty battles in Eastern Canada before the American Revolution.

You don' t have to look very far to find the mass killing of people in any country. Does genocide count? If so we can add Australia.
