Being Mormon summed up in under 3 minutes

Post by _just me »

I thought this perfectly embodied what it is to be Mormon.

This is an old LDS video called "A Cup of Coffee" and it is awesome. I promise it is worth your time!

It would've been awesome if suddenly, after witnessing the coffee-transgression, the two boys just started going at it like they were in a San Francisco bathhouse.

See? You see that?? THAT'S what happens when you drink coffee.

Was the moral of the story that short shorts have always been a sin?

We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

Didn't indicate anything of "perfectly embodying what it's like to be Mormon" to me.
Of course, the anti-mormon liberal mind works differently.

All it indicated to me is the lesson it was meant to teach, and that is not to judge so quick.

by the way, drinking coffee is not a "sin", it's simply a "standard" of LDS behavior.
Thus, they were perfectly fine wondering why it seemed an LDS member was drinking coffee.

Anyway, you all's perverted lack or moral judgments of how you think we judge is all just YOU as usual, not us.
We would recommend a better way for people because of the promises.... but otherwise we simply don't care.

Holy crap! I'd pretty much forgotten how awful those old filmstrips were. Cringe!
Surprise, surprise, there is no divine mandate for the Church to discuss and portray its history accurately.

I have to admit that for a minute I thought that her being "Ms. Robinson" was a clue into the direction this film was taking. I did not see the coffee thing coming!

That was amazingly awful, LOL. Thanks for the link. There are a bunch of early 80s Mormon film strips on youtube. What a goldmine. I love how the comments are focused more on the boys reaction to the coffee than on the lesson not to be judgmental. Of course we shouldn't be judgmental. Everyone knows that, but few people know we should have such a negative reaction to a cup of coffee, lol. I hope there's a film strip from the late 70s about how we should be nice to the negroes now that it is 1978. Unfortunately, that important message will be overshadowed by the overreaction that the negro is wearing Shaft underwear instead of garments.

HOLY COW, that twist at the end. . . the script must have been written by M. Night Shyamalan!

I don't know what a good member of the church was doing handling that devils brew anyway. Avoid the appearance and all that. Tender testimonies could have been damaged.
