NOM Forum
Re: NOM Forum
Wish we knew what was going on. I remember hearing in July talk of how NOM and some other less than orthodox boards were hacked, but no specific details were mentioned. New posters not being able to sign up due to tampering was most unfortunate. Wondered if that hacking could be part of a generous grant from the Wilkinson Memorial Countersurveillance Fund. Apart from that one Support Forum poster saying he/she would be working on the board, there was no hint that the board would go dark. Hope they did not accidentally trip the fuse box.
Somebody must have some knowledge of what has happened. Is there a NOM Facebook group or some other equivalent where people are talking about NOM?

This is the only place I've seen it being discussed (but I'm not on Facebook). I wondered if some from NOM were over on the staylds forum, but I can't see any posts about this over there as of yet.
Like I posted earlier, alas seemed to be the only moderator who was still a frequent poster over there. So, maybe she's working on it and has gotten a hold of Thayne. Who has been paying for the site, do you know? Maybe they no longer wish to do so.
Re: NOM Forum
I didn't post much on either board but I always checked once in a while. I loved your posts and looked for you..this explains a lot as suddenly you were just gone! Moderators are so different..hard to keep up and understand what you can and cannot say anymore.cwald wrote:churchistrue wrote:Here's my $.02 on the NOM forum.
I came back to the board in the last year. My observation after spending a little time there is that it seems like it's been taken over by groupthink New Atheist Exmo's. I've participated in several web forums and Facebook communities since starting my churchistrue blog a year ago. Of all of them, I had my most unpleasant experience there. Maybe it was because I went in expecting it to be more Mo-friendly or at least more intellectually reasonable, and I had higher expectations, than say Exmo Reddit or even here, in terms of finding other like minded individuals, ie unorthodox Mo's.
So, if NOM is going to or wants to survive and carve out a niche, I wonder what the niche it wants to be. And what is or should the term NOM be? It seems if you go by the tone of that board recently, it doesn't match what I expect NOM would or should be.
That has not been my experience.I didn't post very much but just checked in on the board once in a while. Your name was always there so I kind of looked for your posts....then you were so gone! I had no idea! I loved posts.
I got banned at stayLDS, and I voluntarily stay away from NOM because of some comments from moderators about the need to stay positive and follow the rules and mission of the site. A good friend, Zodak, got banned from NOM for less than what you are describing. I don't participate on NOM much because I can't do the mental gymnastics that are required. I mean, I can't even stand to read MG's **** on THIS site. What a bunch of dishonest crap.
NOM is a site for middle way Mormons, many of who are stuck in the church for one reason or another, and need to find a way to make peace with it and remain in relationships with their families and spouses etc. The site worked for me for many years. And it appears to work for many others at this time and good for NOM to provide a safe place for those folks.
I don't know, I just don't see it the way you do personally.

You won't have that problem here on the One True Message Board.
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Re: NOM Forum
Bummer NOM didn't stay true to the founder's purpose.
Maybe more will come this way. I hope this forum becomes better - more positive and encouraging.

Re: NOM Forum
I am missing NOM a whole bunch right now. It was a place for me to express my own Mormonism. It was the kind of place where each person could bring their understanding of the Church's truth and then say, "Let's see what we could add or subtract to it to make it a set of beliefs palatable and authentic for ourselves."
Sure there are other Mormon boards, but it is too easy for some of my fellow Mormons to shut down discussions that have the potential of removing the sugar coating from history and doctrine. Moderators on these boards can run amok and ban people willy-nilly. Of course, there are legitimate reasons for banning some posters for being abusive, but not for courteous discourse or light-heartedness.
NOM was able to escape that censorious Mormon factor, although I would have let Zadok skate on any anti-feminism charges simply because he was a great person and brought cheer to the board. The whole measure of a person needs to be looked at through the lens of love and Zadok measured up quite well.
This board has hardly any censorship and that is a tribute to Dr. Shades. On the other hand, it can sometimes feel so anti-Mormon that it can be uncomfortable.
If NOM doesn't regenerate, I hope Amore is right that something else will come along and fill that empty niche. Someplace that would open its arms to those still affiliated with the Church, but who would be booted out of MD&D.
Addendum - Underneath the NOM Forum index page of Google it reads: This site may be hacked. Hacked again?

Moksha being serious? It can't be!! You stay here. Without you, this board would go off the deep end.moksha wrote:This board has hardly any censorship and that is a tribute to Dr. Shades. On the other hand, it can sometimes feel so anti-Mormon that it can be uncomfortable.

Problems with auto-correct:
In Helaman 6:39, we see the Badmintons, so similar to Skousenite Mormons, taking over the government and abusing the rights of many.

Re: NOM Forum
I believe that this is the new and everlasting one new message board. I wasn't really a NOM anymore anyway.
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by rulers as useful.
