My New Article Apostolic Gnosis in Pistis Sophia/ Bks of Jeu
http://drpepaw.wixsite.com/backyardprof ... oks-of-Jeu
This time I try to look a little into the fascinating, enigmatic, weird early Christian material of the early Christian Pistis Sophia. I contend that part, at least part of the early Christian mysteries are geometric. I think the hints are thick and available in the current literature as we have it, incomplete though it is. I still maintain that the study of geometry is a key to help us grasp what it was the early Christian and Jewish mystics, even Hermeticists were saying and meaning. I have some new evidence here along those lines.
Enjoy!

I find the Book of Mormon a lot more interesting, and true.

I don't suppose I can convince you to give us a run-down of what this so-called "Pistis Sophia" is, can I?

Sure you can convince me, if you offer me a candy bar....
It actually depends on which scholar you ask. Most say its a myth of the gnostics which tells of our souls' fall from redemption and how to get back into Gods good graces. But like Zerinus says, the Book of Mormon is so much vastly more superior, righteous, excellent, accurate, available, necessary, and empowering....
Jesus is a resurrected being after he had a date with the cross, and is teaching his closest associates what it takes for them to get back to the Father. It's dressed up in the language of mysticism with all sorts of interesting weird words to describe what earth life is, heaven is, etc. Pistis Sophia is the little obnoxious runt who needs a spanking and correction in her life in order to make it back to heaven, so Jesus is telling how to acquire such a desireable, necessary, important, and overall beautiful blessing.
I found this on the web..... it's definitely written by a Christian, so its got a bias, sort of like Zerinus, if its not about the Book of Mormon he ain't believin its truth....LOL!
Answer: The Pistis Sophia is a Gnostic document that purports to contain additional teachings of Jesus Christ given after His resurrection. Pistis Sophia, which means “Faith Wisdom,” is not its true title and is found no place in the document itself. The Pistis Sophia was written long after the apostles had died, anywhere from the late second to the fourth century AD. Originally written in Greek, the oldest surviving copy of the Pistis Sophia is in Coptic.
The Pistis Sophia is divided into three sections, with a fourth, unrelated text usually included at the end. The document narrates the events that supposedly took place after Jesus’ resurrection: Jesus spends eleven years (or perhaps eleven months) teaching His disciples. Then, surrounded by flashes of lightning and blinding light, He ascends to a great height but then descends again thirty hours later, wrapped in light, to tell the disciples of His experiences. Jesus says that He ascended through various planes or levels of consciousness where He met several entities; just below the thirteenth level, Jesus met a woman in distress named Pistis Sophia who was enamored with the light of Christ and achieved a salvation of sorts.
The Pistis Sophia and the Gnostic gospels are writings by early “Christian” Gnostics, who espoused heretical beliefs couched in Christian language. During the first few centuries AD, Gnosticism became an influential movement, teaching that anything physical is inherently evil and anything spiritual is inherently good. The orthodox Christians during that time held to the books we now have in the Bible and to what is today considered orthodox theology. The Gnostics held a distinctly different view of the Bible, of Christ, of salvation, and of virtually every other major Christian doctrine. However, they did not have any apostolic writings to give legitimacy to their beliefs. So they wrote their own supporting documents.
That is why and how the Pistis Sophia and the Gnostic gospels were created. The Gnostics fraudulently attached the names of famous Christians to their writings, naming their books things like the Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Philip, the Gospel of Mary, etc. The Pistis Sophia is not a gospel narrative; rather, it is a mystic presentation of Gnostic teachings. It is usually interpreted as an allegory of the soul’s journey to increasingly higher cosmic planes as it apprehends more and more esoteric truth.
The Pistis Sophia is not a source of truth. The early church fathers were nearly unanimous in recognizing the Gnostic texts as promoting false teachings about virtually every key Christian doctrine. There are countless contradictions between the Pistis Sophia and other Gnostic texts and the true Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Gnostic writings can be a resource for the study of early Christian heresies, but their doctrine should be rejected outright. They do not represent genuine Christian faith.
From Wikipedia
Pistis Sophia (Greek: Πίστις Σοφία) is a Gnostic text discovered in 1773,[1] possibly written between the 3rd[2] and 4th centuries AD.[3] The existing manuscript, which some scholars place in the late 4th century,[4] relates one Gnostic group's teachings of the transfigured Jesus to the assembled disciples (including his mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Martha). In this text, the risen Jesus had spent eleven years speaking with his disciples, teaching them only the lower mysteries. After eleven years, he receives his true garment and is able to reveal the higher mysteries revered by this group. The prized mysteries relate to complex cosmologies and knowledge necessary for the soul to reach the highest divine realms.
Much of the first two books of the manuscript are dedicated to outlining the myth of the fall and restoration of the figure known as Pistis Sophia, in particular giving detailed parallels between her prayers of repentance and particular Psalms and Odes of Solomon.
Although in many Gnostic texts and systems Sophia is a major female divinity, in Pistis Sophia she originates and dwells outside of the divine realm. Her fall and redemption parallel that found in versions of the Sophia myth such as that in the Apocryphon of John, but the actions all take place in the material aeons, and she can only be restored to her place in the thirteenth aeon, outside the Kingdom of Light.

Re: My New Article Apostolic Gnosis in Pistis Sophia/ Bks of
Just finished reading, Philo. I have to say, this is utterly fascinating stuff. I really owe you one for doing this. I feel like I have neglected this crucial aspect of the ancient mysteries far too long. Imagine if the geometry of the endowment had been preserved and cultivated. If only we were able to converse about those matters. The endowment was the place where we were supposed to learn the mysteries of sacred geometry, and we can see elements there, but we don't delve into them. Is there more to gather? Does it work as a system in geometric terms? Can it be made to work as a coherent whole? With the gematria, you probably notice some fudging in the forms of words to make the math work. Sometimes the article is included, sometimes not; sometimes the noun is in the nominative case, sometimes in the genitive. You can shoehorn the system of words and symbols to make the geometry and numbers come out right. Indeed, this is what one must do, since the rituals and words are pale reflections of the true forms.

I have always thought the COMPLETE secrecy was way overdone, and so none of us ever learned much of anything. That's sad. Yes there are hints of the geometry involved and it OUGHT to be taught in my thinking.
On the gematria thing, yes, it is also the fact that when dealing with incommensurable numbers, pi, sq rts etc., there can never be exact numerical measures so the rule of colel says its ok to either add or subtract one because we are in the world of incompleteness and imperfectness. I enjoy the gematria but when the geometry as well as the musical patterns and ratios also incorporate that's when I say wow.
Thanks for your kind words and ideas. I have a lot more I will post as time allows.

Kerry, I am glad you cleared that up as to the content of the article. My first inclination was to think that a Pistis Sophia was some sort of Greek bidet. Congratulations on your article. Opa!

Nope, not a bidet, just some early Christian writing.....lol. I find them so interesting because I have judged them before as so silly. Now I see them in an entirely different light! It's just so interesting. Stay tuned, by next weekend I am going to have a woozie of a subject. Been itchin to do this one for years. It's time to quit dawdling, and just go for broke.....whee!
