Ayn Rand’s personal life was consistent with her philosophy of not giving a crap about anybody but herself. Rand was an ardent two-pack-a-day smoker, and when questioned about the dangers of smoking, she loved to light up with a defiant flourish and then scold her young questioners on the “unscientific and irrational nature of the statistical evidence.” After an x-ray showed that she had lung cancer, Rand quit smoking and had surgery for her cancer. Collective members explained to her that many people still smoked because they respected her and her assessment of the evidence; and that since she no longer smoked, she ought to tell them. They told her that she needn’t mention her lung cancer, that she could simply say she had reconsidered the evidence. Rand refused.

If you doubt that she is wrong about that, it explains a lot about you -- none of it good. It also puts you at odds with the teachings of the LDS Church of which you claim to be a faithful member. It also explains your apparent loyalty to what is probably the most openly corrupt and self-serving President ever elected.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

There is a possible consideration that a person lacking love of self may not really seek to understand what is good for other selves. It is possible for some examples of altruism to be so out of touch with what is actually good for selves as to generate more injury than good when spread around to others.

I can wonder if altruism can sometimes be a mask for pride lacking any real concern for people.

It is possible for some forms of selflessness to loose orientation to what is helpful to anybody.

But respect for what is good for oneself and good for those other examples of selves which we live with may have some similarities to selfishness but is not really the same thing.

John 15:3 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Is the antithesis of Rand's codified selfishness.

I don't understand how a Rand Objectivist can be a christian or how a christian can claim to follow the teachings of Rand. The GOP is a hot mess.

Some of us, on the other hand, actually prefer a religion that includes some type of correlation with reality.

Well said, Steelhead! It boggles my mind that subgenius, who claims to be a devout Mormon and Christian, can possibly fail to see that!
