However you feel about transgenders serving in the military, the way this was done was classic Trump. A tweet to change our policy. What happens to all the transgender personnel now serving in the military? Are they are told to get packing today?

The Joint Chiefs are already saying there are no plans to boot out all transgender service personnel.

You would think a self described 'very smart person' at 70 years old would know that you cannot change policy overnight with a tweet. But the disruption of the lives of those serving in the military is the price we pay for the ignorant idiot in the White House, whose sole concern seems to be making himself feel better in the moment.

What I'm wondering is if military readiness and whatever is potentially degraded by having Blacks, Women, Gay, Immigrants, transgendered personnel why are able to accomplish our military mission? Why are we the most lethal military in the history of mankind?

there are countless examples of people being disqualified for military service due to medical reasons. Just because you are beating the protest du jour doesn't mean everyone has to dance to your beat....besides, you haven't any addressed the fundamental cause behind the ban...because you can't...it's easier for your position to move the goal posts.

Yesterday morning when this was announced, I was visiting with by brother-in-law who just retired as a doctor in the Air Force after 20 years. It was interesting to see his reaction.

While he is generally very pro-LGBT rights, even in the military, he said from the perspective of the "mission" of the military, and from a medical perspective, this is a long-overdue policy and a very good thing. There are many physical conditions that exempt a person from military service, such as diabetes. It's not a matter of compassion and political correctness. It's a matter of medical resources, the purpose of the military, and the understanding that not everyone can serve and that being told you can't serve isn't necessarily a value judgment against that person.

If someone wants to make the argument that a transgender person is no different than a person with different skin color in the medical care they might require, the logistics of transporting and housing them etc., then that's a fair argument to make. But, at least in by BIL's experience, there were material differences that were being ignored out of fear that were working to the detriment of the resources and purpose of the military.

It has been my experience that if you are looking for an excuse any will do. The same "logic" was used to keep out, and treat blacks in the military differently than white ones.

They were already enlisted and commissioned with their pre-existing medical condition.

Let's say that the high end figure of trans active duty is correct, 6K. This will result in a worldwide rotation of military personnel, moving costs, administrative costs for 12K people.

That includes personnel living outside of CONUS on PCS orders AND those who are on deployment.

Funny you should mention that. The front page of our local newspaper quotes a local soldier as asking "Was I just fired on Twitter?"

Think about how disrespectful that was. Think about how unsure he is about his future. This isn't a middle school break up, it's the President announcing policy on social media. This goes well beyond eye roll status. US citizens should be livid about the psychological abuse of their armed forces who stand ready to protect and defend.
