What a novel idea. Pool risks so no one needlessly suffers.

Imagine that. And yet these folks love to call us all "indivisible" with their hands over their hearts and tears in their eyes. And many of them wax all poetic and altruistic when Christmas comes around. But we see them and we know them--frauds, wolves in sheeps' clothing.

My bolding. That is, um, the whole principle behind insurance of any kind.

actually is not the principle behind insurance that "as many people as possible pay for as few a people as possible"?

and would not your argument be framed better if it were "everyone, sick and healthy, is paying for those who need it"
your sentiment simply perpetuates the underlying stigma for freeloaders and entitlements. Many people abuse the healthcare system under the guise of being sick at the expense of both the healthy and sickly....and insist that they should never ever have to pay into the system....so, perhaps your argument's frame could be gilded?

There is no argument that some few do actually take unfair advantage of health care insurance. IE; Hypochondria. But the numbers do not justify burning the whole thing down just to give a few Multi-millionaires, and Billionaires a Yuuge tax break.

Yup, I'm really proud of inventing that idea! Do you think I should patent it?

I think the notion of a 'pool of risk shared by all citizens' as applied to healthcare may eventually be adopted and put into practice somewhere. Or maybe that is just a dream ... I mean, if the idea was really any good, the USA would already have adopted it, or something like it, surely?

Surely .... ?

Apparently we really like paying more for health care insurance, but receiving less actual health care.

The Affordable Care Act was passed with known flaws that then-President Obama anticipated would be worked out later when he signed it into law. But it was formed in a partisan atmosphere hell-bent on sticking it to Republicans after the Bush years.

That's not accurate. Obama went out of his way, preemptively weakening the law even, in an effort to reach across the aisle and get bipartisan support. This is where criticisms of him as a weak president have teeth. He got none despite dangling concessions. The Republicans made a calculation that if they opposed it with parliamentary solidarity, this would be politically advantageous in the long-run. It was, so the politics made sense.

Health care insurance companies do not provide health care. They pay for it through the money pooled by a large group of people. They want to make a profit so a portion of what you pay goes to Stock holders, CEO's, etc. Another good portion goes to pay people to advertise to you and get you to sign up with their company. Insurance companies are a big factor why Americans pay more for health care then people in other countries.
