Who will be the next leader of the shrinking cult?

Post by _Polygamy-Porter »

Now that Monson is dead, who is the likely fool to take the command of this failing cult?

Likely the modern polygamist, Mr. Nelson..

Old man Nelson can't be President unless his personal aides can scoop him out of bed, dress him up and parade him before the church like a store mannequin ready to perform the Mormon puppet act. I predict he's going to be disappointing and flop.

The order of succession (with current age) is as follows:
Nelson - 93
Oaks - 85
Ballard - 89
Holland - 77
Eyring - 84

My guess is Nelson, obviously, for at least 2 years and not much more. We will then get to enjoy Oaks for another 5 years. Then the reign of the dodo will be upon us as Ballard certainly would not survive to 96.

No need to guess.

It’s stipulated in the Corporations articles of association that the longest serving apostle automatically becomes President. On second reading of your post, I think you were actually saying that, right?

When you look at this list of the next potentially 20 years worth of leaders, do you see any agents for change?
Neither do I.

He's married to a gerontologist. And as an old CT surgeon he should have some pretty good defib resources onhand...but I predict he'll go on with the fibbing anyhow.

My guessing part is that he will last for only 2 years. My other guess is that he will be horrible based on the past baptismal prohibition "revelation" nonsense.

Nelson of course, they are too gutless to buck tradition. Although bucking tradition could be an interesting move that shifts even more power to the 12 from FP. The real question though is who Nelson picks as counselors. I have a feeling that is one convention he will part with and it won't be the Eyring/Uchdorf combo. Maybe keep one. I think his decision in this regard will show us whether there is indeed a bit of a divide as some have claimed. If he chose Bednar that would be, well, hilarious.

Continued retrenchment in the face of reality, is more likely.
