Salt Lake to Moscow to New York

Post by _moksha »

Back in 2002, the Winter Olympics was held in Salt Lake City. During the Winter Olympics, Russia and France colluded in voting to mutually receive gold medals. When the Russian pairs skaters with a flawed routine beat the Canadians with a perfect performance, Canada filed an appeal. The appeal resulted in the Canadians Jamie Sale and David Pelletier being named the co-gold medal winners.

But what happened to the fixers? Alimzhan Tokhtakhounov was the Russian crime boss behind the fixing of pairs figure skating and the pairs ice dancing at the 2002 Winter Olympics. He was indicted by James Comey, who was then the Manhattan U.S. attorney.

Tokhtakhounov went on also to be indicted in 2013 for running a criminal organization involved in money laundering and arms trafficking, as well as a multimillion-dollar gambling operation based in Trump Tower, three floors directly below the penthouse of the man who is now our president.

The New York office was run by Vadim “Dima” Trincher, the other senior member also indicted in 2013. Trincher was released to house arrest, which meant he was confined in splendor as federal prisoner 68454-054 directly below the Trump residence all during the presidential campaign and during the first seven months of the new administration. Federal probation officers faced the novel prospect of having to pass through the Secret Service to run spot checks on a felon.
