White Bible
White Bible
Recently I've been involved in a side project about missionary life, and one of the things I was hoping to use was my "White Bible" or missionary handbook, that I was given in the MTC in the mid-1980s. I know I have mine somewhere, but I can't find it. Does anyone who was a missionary roughly in that era have a copy or know where I can find the text?

I may, let me check.
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."

Re: White Bible
It''s not in the box with my other mission stuff. I still have my Spanish discussion book if that is any help.

I may have to dig deeply through the boxes this weekend. Just before we moved in May, I went through all of our boxes of mementos and got rid of a lot of junk. I did find the white Bible, which I had carried in my shirt pocket my entire mission. Tucked into the sleeve behind the certificate proving I was a missionary, I found a couple of Bolivian bank notes and my notes on the steps for getting a missionary in and out of the country. Now I just need to figure out which box it's in.

I still have mine.

If you can find it, would you mind scanning it in?

I'm aware the current one is available, but I'm interested in the one I had 30 years ago.
Re: White Bible
I shredded mine about 7 years ago along with all my missionary stuff including journals. I shredded my missionary call with Spencer W Kimball's signature drawn from the automatic pen machine. I'm pretty sure the only think I kept was my plastic name badges but maybe I need to check the trunk and see if I did keep something else. Hmmm.

I'd be curious to see how it's changed.
Mid-80s. My mission president had a rule that we were to keep it with us at all times. Maybe that was a church-wide rule. Were also to read it during companionship study at least once per week. So it's something that I read probably around 100 times, yet I only have a vague recollection of it. I remember most of the rules, though.
No swimming? Well, surfing isn't swimming. And it also couldn't be swimming if I could still touch the bottom with my feet.
I'm pretty sure I tossed it as soon as I got home. Not for any ideological reason. Just that I'm not a pack rat and saw no need to keep it.
