Suddenly you want to pretend that your posts have knowledge about deficits?

I freaked out over trillion dollar deficits during the "great recession", but economic downturns is where you expect deficits. How is it possible to have trillion dollar deficits during the greatest economic period in history (according to Trump) and the most peaceful era in history?

I guess you could tax everyone at 80% after $90k to pay for free college, medicare for all, etc. But what company would continue to invest their dollars in America after you do that? That fiscal year would be the last year you ever collect a tax like that. Then would come the full transformation of the USA into Venezuela.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Notice how every road to socialism leads to Venezuela or Cuba and never to Denmark or Sweden?

That's because Sweden and Denmark are still on that road.....regardless, all of them are steeped in a political mythology that is quickly being unveiled.

I heard an interesting panel discussion - of traditional but disgruntled conservatives, by the way - noting that when Paul Ryan took office the deficit was around $5 trillion and he will leave office with it around $21 trillion dollars and climbing with a Republican in the White House and Republican control of Congress. The panel of traditional conservatives joked that if Paul Ryan was a deficit hawk the country was in trouble.
ETA: The source was a new podcast called "Words Matter" that I downloaded on iTunes if interested. Tomorrow they'll release their second episode so it's very new and I'm not comfortable describing it based on just one episode. The hosts are historically conservative turned anti-Trump who are concerned about Trump's influence on both the Republican party and the nation as a whole. Some of our more rational conservative posters might enjoy it so I thought I'd share.
Here's an article describing it before it started last Monday -
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2018/08 ... ever-trump
“There’s an opening for center-right content geared toward an engaged audience who wants more than a two-minute soundbite,” said Jordan in a separate interview. “We come to this from a somewhat similar ideological background. I’m more libertarian and he’s probably more of an establishment hawk, so it will make for an interesting debate between two segments of conservatism, given that it’s being taken over more and more by Trumpism than any ideology. There will be consequences for running this government like a personal kleptocracy. People need to be preparing for what follows and how we’re going to come out of this dark cycle of corruption.”
On the other side of that coin is a podcast called, "The Wilderness" which is by the guys behind "Pod Save America" that takes on the legacy of the Democrat party, what went wrong in 2016, and what in their view is the necessary future. Might be of interest to some here as well.

Where do you think an open borders US socialism is going to lead? Venezuela or Sweden? I submit that these Nordic countries are not completely socialist countries. They certainly didn't build their wealth and position in the world due to socialism.
If you believe Venezuela and Denmark hold the same laws and views on private property, then why is one country a ****hole and the other a decent standard of living? Corrupt governments? Differences in politics?
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

That is nothing but ignorant nonsense. The per capita income, happiness rating, health rating and educational level of these countries have only increased as their social democratic governments progressed. Cuba and Venezuela are not fair comparisons as they are governed by despotic, repressive governments that actually discourage and look down on individual initiative. Free enterprise, democracy and individual initiative still thrive in the Scandinavian countries and continue to enhance both their prosperity and over all happiness. My relatives in Norway can more easily afford to visit me here in America than I can afford to visit them in Norway. They have visited several times, and it is abundantly obvious that they are better off and happier in many ways than many Americans.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
