The statistical report was not read in conference (again). Not surprising. It is no where near faith promoting. Here are some excerpts from the PFK's Trib article:
LDS Church tops 16.3 million members, but number reflects lowest net increase in 40 years
Amid the 2018 statistic report announced Saturday by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there is a startling finding: the largest number of membership records ever removed in a single year — 140,868.

AWESOME. And guess what this means? Formal resignation is non-passive and deliberate. It is also less fearful of social consequences. It is also more open. I would say that the Mormon community will feel more and more the weight of resigned Mormons who still participate directly or on the edges of Mormonism but openly, and unashamed of being apostates and unafraid of raising their voices in protest of unhealthy patterns of the institution.
More and more open apostates will, in some way or another, stick around and create pressure for the church to decrease harm.
It is no wonder that they are letting LGBTQ's babies and such get blessed and baptized.
32 Billion in investments doesn't last long if your expenses for Temples, Ward Buildings, Stake Centers, Missions, Employees, Senior Executive compensations, Retirement Accounts, etc. aren't being covered by a new batch of Rubes (basic Pyramid Scheme rules).
Even worse is when the new batch of Rubes are from Third World Countries and cost instead of give. Whatever happened to the happy White Nucleolus families from the Good Ole US of A and its White furner friends in Europe that we use to get? Has the World gone MAD? Oh that's right, Google GOD, never mind.
Another thing to note in the Statistical Report is that it doesn't seem to matter how many Missionaries they have out pedaling the Pooh, the same number of Rubes are joining each year. So reduce that cost and let the Marvelous Works of Wonder of the Internet do the sales job.

I'm wondering whether the whole "count the inactives until age 110" thing hasn't played a role in this large number of removals.
I.e. are inactive members who were born in 1908 finally being removed? Are they the first large group to cross that threshold?
I don't know when the decision to keep inactives on the books for so long was made, but it would have had the effect of artificially inflating the numbers for a few decades until people began aging past the new threshold.

The 140k number supposedly is the sum the following 4 things:
Member Deaths (probably including missing members who have reach 110 years old) Members of record not baptized (not sure at what age this happens - 18?) Resignations Excommunications
But we really can't know for sure what any of these numbers mean because the church is not transparent about how any of the numbers they give us are generated.
The number of convert baptisms reported for 2018 was 234332. (The number who will actually stay active beyond a year is probably much smaller.)
