In the 2011 census 82,718 Tongans (about 80%) said they belonged to a faith other than the LDS Church. Just 18% of Tongans ticked the census box saying they were LDS. The Church claims about 60,000 members, so my guess is about 40,000 Tongan Mormons are either in the Spirit World or they have joined another church.

There is more to this story. Consider this: The island of Tonga is less than 300 square miles -- heck, Dallas is bigger than that. There is a single temple in Tonga and it's not very big at all although a second temple has been announced. You'd think with all those Mormons on that little island there would be long lines to get into the temple and it would be running at full capacity. But why do I get the feeling that's not the case? The Tonga temple is hardly a destination:

Services
No clothing rental available
No cafeteria available

Bring your own apron and your own sandwiches!

What a freaking joke.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tonga wrote:According to the LDS Church, there over 60,000 LDS members (which is about 57% of the population of Tonga) in Tonga, which means that Tonga has the highest percentage of Latter-day Saints in the world. However, according to the 2011 census, 18.01% of Tongans belong to the LDS Church, making it the second largest Christian denomination in the country after Methodism. This discrepancy in reported membership numbers is caused by the LDS Church's tradition of keeping a member's name on their records despite the individual's dissociation with the church in comparison to the census' self-reported numbers.

Yep, most of the Mormons in Tonga are dead or have quit the church.

When President NelSatan recently visited the island he was greeted by 10,000 people at an outdoor devotional. It's reasonable to think that every single devout Tongan would have wanted to make it to the party and some no doubt brought non-member friends. If there really were 60,000 Mormon Tongans there would have been a much larger crowd to greet their cult leader. Right? Of course right.

Put another way...67% of the members the Church claims to have in Tonga, have disassociated themselves from the Church. The level of activity of the remaining 33% who still admit to being Mormon, is unknown.

Who can blame the Tongan population for not wanting to attend? The meetings are incredibly boring and the church callings are even more boring. Attendance doesn't provide any tangible benefit and takes away time and money while piling on the guilt. Perhaps families get closer due to mutual suffering but I can think of many better ways to spend quality time with the family.

The church needs to lie, appealing to popularity, in order to hide these facts. So, why not 110%? Why not 200%?

According to Mormon Newsroom the current membership is now at 65,532 or 60.67% of the population.

25%, 50% 75% 100%, so what. The total population of Tonga could be VERY Active Mormon, but so what.

Have any of you been to Tonga? Does the Nation of Tonga have a daily significance in your lives? Have you even BOUGHT something the says Made in Tonga.

Having the entire population Mormon in Tonga is as important to furthering Mormon expansion as having the exclusive rights to the manufacturing and selling of Crank Handles for Model T Fords. The Nation of Tonga could sink into the Ocean and no one would notice for 50 years, until the message in a bottle landed on a beach somewhere and was read.

But, I agree, the Mormons are lying their damned ASSES off again.

STUPID damned Mormons

Nope, yep, nope. I would buy stuff if they sold anything in Australia.

The church in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane is filled with Tongans. Israel Folau, who's Tongan, is Australia's best rugby player. He was Mormon until his whole family and most of his ward in Brisbane left after the church tried to stop the members speaking Tongan at Church. Really dumb move by the Church.

But they may have dodged a bullet, because Folau is now in the newspaper every second day. He was sacked by Rugby Australia for making homophobic comments on Facebook. It was clearly spelt out in his contract, not to make homophobic comments, but he did anyway because he's a self righteous, ignorant prick. He is now suing RA for $10M claiming religious discrimination. It could end up being a landmark case in Australia, but many suspect they'll settle.
