Michael Cohen to be released from jail.

Post by _MeDotOrg »

Sometimes the constant reality of TrumpWorld® makes us numb to what has become the new normal. Michael Cohen is being released from jail? Yawn. If you don't believe Trump has twisted our expectations, imagine this had been the case:

President Obama had an affair with a porn star 4 months after his youngest daughter Sasha is born. The porn star threatens to go public with the story just before the election. Obama instructs his personal attorney to pay off the porn star and lie about it. Obama's attorney lies land him in prison with the President as an unnamed conspirator.

Released from jail as a health precaution during the pandemic that President Obama's leadership made worse, his attorney violates some restrictions on home arrest. After reporting to the parole office, he is told to either sign a paper saying he will not contact social media or publish a book as a condition of continued home arrest. He refuses, and is sent back back to jail. Obama's attorney sues, and the judge deciding the case says:
In 21 years of being a judge and sentencing people and looking at the terms and conditions of supervised release, I have never seen such a clause.
Now imagine this ONE chain of events had actually occurred on President Obama's watch. Imagine how much differently Barack Obama would be perceived. When it happens during the Trump administration it nearly gets lost in the background noise.

It's both interesting and commendable that the Judge ruled in favor of Cohen's release on the grounds that requiring Cohen to sign an agreement to refrain from writing or otherwise revealing anything about Trump's nefarious actions in order to remain on probation was a clear and flagrant violation of Cohen's 1st Amendment right of freedom of speech.

It has been from the start, and more evident now than ever, obvious that Trump strongly holds that the 1st Amendment right should apply only to himself and whoever agrees with him.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
