Thanks for being the voice of reason, MG. Kish is given to loud laughter and should definitely be reproved sharply at times when moved upon by the HG ( I assume you were so moved), but, shown a lot of love after the righteous spanking. Anyway, I always thought that Joseph Smith was a close 2nd to JC, maybe pretty much equal. Is that wrong?

Praise to the man and Merry Smithmas to you!

SMITHMAS IS THE BESTMAS.
Hugh Nibley claimed he bumped into Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, Gertrude Stein, and the Grand Duke Vladimir Romanoff. Dishonesty is baked into Mormonism.

I am really saddened that MG does not have the Smithmas spirit! I sincerely believe that Smithmas deserves far more recognition and celebration than it gets. Think of how appealing it would be if Mormons (too bad they lost that name too) could have had Smithmas and Christmas back to back! President Nelson is really taking the LDS Church in the wrong direction.

Yes, folks, it's that most wonderful time of the year! Grab your steaming hot mug of cocoa and join in the celebration of the birth of the man who did more for the salvation of humankind than everyone save Jesus only!

I am a big proponent of Smithmas. I don't understand the resistance. With all of Joseph Smith's amazing feats, why not celebrate his memory appropriately?
Didn't Smith say he had done more for the salvation of men than Christ?
In the OP, Kish was likely referring to this, or some other similar quote:
Francis M. Gibbons, in General Conference, 1991 wrote:"Sometime after the Martyrdom, John Taylor, who would become the third president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wrote this:

“Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it.” (D&C 135:3.)"

Merry Smithmas Reverend!

Smithmas is real.

Growing up, our holiday parties for extended family included celebrating Joseph Smith. And for good reason.

Recall, Joseph Smith said, "I have more to boast of than ever any man had", saying among other things that the early saints even left Jesus, but the later saints had not left him. I doubt Jesus' church had a 150B rainy day slush fund. Jesus remitting sins is useless if baptism is done wrong or by the wrong authority. Sprinkling just doesn't work -- baptism must be done by full emersion, as was typified and testified by a global flood in the time of Noah that fully submerged the entire earth at the same time, including every tree and mountaintop, and at 8 years of age typified by eight saved in the ark.

Joseph testified that every church save his restored church was false and a pollution to this world.

Why wouldn't he rank nearly equal to Christ?

We also know that at the final judgement, Joseph Smith will be on the panel.

It can't just be coincidence the births of the first two important people who ever lived were born so close together. And if it is, then God surely understands that the mind of the worshiper will readily see the close proximity as a sign.

The only TBMs who deny the reality of Smithmas are those, who for whatever reason, try to save face with Evangelical Christians. Why do they care what a bunch of false churches, as Joseph Smith deemed them, think? Why not celebrate your true beliefs instead of feeling ashamed for them?

That’s weird.

Huh? We do. Christmas is observed/celebrated with the rest of the Christian world.

Interesting that apostates/atheists would be the ones so focused on a so called “Smithmas” rather than Christmas. Better to focus on a man rather than a God they don’t believe in I guess.

It’s not like you’re going to wish everyone a Merry Christmas by default, right?

We’ll have to see if a thread is started wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! If there is one, I’m afraid of where it might go among a bunch of godless disbelievers with some blasphemers thrown in to boot.

Christ was born. He was the Son of God. He was resurrected. His gospel is true. This is the time of year, as members of the church, that we join hands with all those of other Christian faiths and their multitudes shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”
Matthew 21:9

If the critics/apostates feel it necessary to focus on a man rather than a God at this Christmas time, then have at it. But you’re in the extreme minority.

Merry Christmas Gadianton.

Sure you are.

Anyway, I don’t want to continue in interfering with your Smithmas greetings, so I’ll be on my way. I thought it important to bring to the forefront that it is Christmas time.

Again, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all on this board!

And even if you don’t believe in Christ as the Son of God and Redeemer of mankind, I would still wish all the best for a productive and happy new year to all.🙂

Regards,
MG

Thank you Kish. It is heartwarming to see President Joseph F. Smith's admonition followed in our present day. May we always remember to not become swayed with the modern tendency to do away with sacred traditions, or cling to the apostasy ridden dates of men.

Merry Smithmas my friend.

We celebrate what is supposed to be the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but we get a long way off from His birthday; so that now, instead of celebrating the real birthday of our Lord, which was on the 6th of April, we celebrate the 25th of December in each year. And it is a proper thing that we should hallow His birthday, above all others. And in my judgment—and of course I may be a little biased in regard to this matter—in my judgment the next birthday celebration to that of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ should be that of Joseph Smith, to this entire people of the Latter-day Saints. ~President Joseph F Smith

Smithmas is real.
And to you, Dean Robbers!

I deed it is real, and I am glad to see you have enjoyed this tradition in your life.
The only TBMs who deny the reality of Smithmas are those, who for whatever reason, try to save face with Evangelical Christians. Why do they care what a bunch of false churches, as Joseph Smith deemed them, think? Why not celebrate your true beliefs instead of feeling ashamed for them?
Bingo! You are absolutely correct, Dean. It is so sad to see how far down the road of apostasy these Nelsonian LDSers have gone.
