Oh, just cheese and crackers, America! Palin loses.

Post by MeDotOrg »

In a devastating career move for Tina Fey, Sarah Palin lost her bid to take Don Young's seat. This is the first time a Democrat has won the seat since 1972.

Sarah Palin actually seems a little like a minor league player in the context of current events, but tonight I'm eating my cheese and crackers with a schadenfreude dip.

Ranked voting is funnier than vote by mail. Way funnier.

Extremely funny, in fact. America is all smiles watching Palin get booted from this race.

Interesting, Binger, it seems like the only valid election so far was the one Liz Cheney lost in Wyoming. According to you, the people clearly picked someone else. If a Trump-backed Republican loses, then it's fraud. And you aren't even a Trump supporter.

It's just you being a contrarian for no reason aside from the people on this forum bugging you. Trump is similar. I almost hope for his sake he really was knee deep in selling secrets because if not, if he gets indicted and prosecuted, it's basically for being a pointless contrarian. "oh this whole secret / top secret stuff is a bunch of BS, I'll go ahead and take this yellow one and that red one, they're mine anyway. What a joke!"

I shouldn't say people bugging you on this forum is the only reason. As you've hinted at, it makes for a good show for your employees. You appear to employ a rough crowd, and the boss ranting against government makes them think you're cool. I can appreciate that, I've never owned a business and had to worry about employee morale and if being a contrarian gets them motivated then it's understandable to a degree.
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Binger, should Palin concede or seek to have wild-eyed supporters storm the Alaskan capital with snowmobiles and dog sleds?

Well. Would you say that ranked voting is the good old regular norm and standard in Centerville, USA and Mayberry, USA? Or, would you consider ranked voting to be “contrary” to the standard voting practice?

Would you consider ranked voting to be straight-forward, or subject to manipulation?

Did I say any of the crap you are suggesting and assuming? Or none of it?

Gad, I dislike ranked voting because it is garbage and can be jacked up. Want to see how and why? Watch the non-special election of the same candidates in November and see if the outcome is the same. That is why. If the results in the general vary by a statistically meaningful amount, that will be interesting.

You obviously did not read the article. The race is continues, with Palin.

The ranked choice is funny because it is a sham and Alaska will likely discontinue the experiment after this mess. But it is entertaining to watch the election process continue to unravel. Very funny. Hysterical. At this point, why even bother?
For the first time in the state, voters ranked their choices in the special election in order of preference. Once all ballots are received, if no candidate has over 50 percent of the vote, the candidate with the lowest total is eliminated and those votes are assigned to the voter's second choice. The process of elimination continues until one candidate gets over 50 percent.

Moksha, ask Ray Epps and the FBI whether or not they need to play this game again. Your suggestion seems too conspiratorial for me.

No, the races does not "continue." This was a special election to fill a vacant seat. The election is over and Palin lost.

But there is a new general election in November, in which Palin can try again if she chooses.

Alaska chose rank choice voting. It's no more "subject to manipulation" than any other kind of voting. If you think breaking the stranglehold of the two major political parties in the U.S. would be a good thing, rank choice voting can do that. It also reduces that ability to game the vote by running fake candidates to try and split the other party's votes.
