I suspect that trend would likely be reflected in other countries. Religious institutions, particularly those with older, non diverse leadership structures, are becoming increasingly unsatisfactory places to spend time for young adults. It's easy to see why. Young Adults are far more accepting of diversity, are far more likely to have a diverse group of friends. Their minds don't function like a 1950's white middle aged man, and so religious institutions that still reflect that type of thinking are going to be a turn off.Namely, younger Americans remain far less religious than older adults. For example, the youngest adults in the survey (ages 18 to 24) are less likely than today’s oldest adults (ages 74 and older) to:
Identify as Christian (46% vs. 80%)
Pray daily (27% vs. 58%)
Say they attend religious services at least monthly (25% vs. 49%)
It would be interesting to see a break down of, for instance, LDS convert baptisms by age range. But I suspect that the average pew population of LDS Churches is aging.
