I consider you lot my friends, so want to share something.

We lost someone at work yesterday. The details aren’t clear but it’s tragic, nonetheless.

I wrote something to capture my feelings as part of a memorial we are going to have, and decided to share it here as well, at least in part.

She took on work that many of us depended on, even when it wasn’t the most visible or celebrated part of our mission. She showed dedication in ways that were quiet but meaningful. I hope she knew that her contributions mattered and that they helped carry our team forward.

There was a nervousness about her, a mix of uncertainty and courage that sometimes barely covered the hesitancy. I remember her briefing the commander; she was nervous, but she pushed ahead and delivered, and that bravery stayed with me. She kept showing up and doing what needed to be done.

It still feels surreal that she’s gone. She will be missed, and I’m grateful for the part she played in our efforts. Thank you for the work you did and for the example you gave to all of us.

I’m ok, thank you for asking. What disturbs me a little is we tend to overwork the same individuals, and I had seen signs but they only become clear in hindsight.
