The "700" is a number that has been repeated from John Sorenson's "The Book of Mormon as a Mesoamerican Record" in Book of Mormon Authorship Revisited: The Evidence for Ancient Origins by FARMs.

I think Kevin was probably using a bit of hyperbole. He's a really bright guy in my opinion, and this doesn't sound like an evidence or argument that he would normally brandish.

Yes, hyperbole to the max.

If there were really 700 consistent geographical references, then apologists should be able to construct a detailed map. Maybe like Hyboria, constructed from the writings of Robert E. Howard, creator of Conan the Barbarian:

Instead we get crap like this from the Book of Mormon.
