Following up on the facts has never been high on the list of to-do's for most TBM's I know. Acceptance of faith promoting discussions, talks, testimonies and lessons has always been a desirable quality that make up the perfect LDS member. I have spoken with someone who has attended a different lecture by this individual and they were surprised by some of the things in which he brings up. When pressed if he felt that the lecturer was providing some obscure theories that deserved looking into, he seemed almost confused at the question.
I think it's unfortunate but to me it seems as if search, ponder and pray is limited to the standard works and for only those things in which controversy plays no part. Stem once mentioned in another thread that I must live in a low-brow community because they simply are not familiar with LDS apologetics or the apologists themselves except maybe Ash. Nothing screams "INVESTIGATE" more than what Ash says in his articles, yet I figure most people are simply inspired to have more faith after reading them.
But even I have shown my laziness in not even investigating the source of his premise that the Book of Abraham once had it right in showing the correct figures in much older scriptures. I too have shelved some of my beliefs because I have work to do, mouth's to feed and simply don't have the time or resources that our apologetic friends have in trying to make sense of what some might consider pure nonsense.
