If you have a need to believe in the collection of BS known as Mormonism, then you go with either the current explanation from LDS Inc or the local faith promoting rumor.

If you have no need to believe Mormonism, then you already KNOW it is impossible for an untrained person to translate real tangible records let alone unseen purported records.

I wonder - did he believe in his own abilities as prophet enough that he got a thrill before looking at them for the first time? As if he might see something that no one else could see there? I wonder if they tried to use the U&T? I honestly do. Because I then wonder what they thought after it didn't work?
I am sure he filled his adult diaper at that moment as he thought "oh crap! I am so screwed!"

Book Of Abraham--Relevant portions missing- Inspired translation.

Greek Psalter shown to Joseph Smith in 1842 by Henry Caswall-Secular translation

It looks like the only time a prophet is translating as a prophet is when the original is no where to be found.

What an amazing coincidence you've discovered!

I'd call it predictable blind chance.
In other words (words copyright J.S.) trivial.

- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei
