Do you really need a "prophet?"

two points, Nehor. 1) During GC, the prophet is not the only one speaking. 2) what i was primarily interested in was the "need" members have for the prophet, the extent to which they hang on his every word and to the extent they'd be lost in life without him. I have no doubt that you and others might possibly like General Conference and Hinckley's speeches. I used to tune into Adam Carolla all the time and liked his show. The station sold out, and I was mildly agitated over it for a day.

So long as the lost Ten Tribes aren't being called back from the lands of the North in your lifetime, as Hinckley is the only one with the keys to do it, it doesn't sound like you and the others have much more of a need for Hinckley personally than I have for entertainers I enjoy.

Why am I always the last to know these things?

Bigger than the priesthood to blacks thing? One guess would be calling missionaries home, but I doubt that's gonna happen yet. I might guess they'd go to a 2 hr block time, but I don't think that change would be as huge as the priesthood. I might hope for a change to the one-year wait for temple marriage after civil marriage, but I doubt that's happening soon. I suspect that one day women might be ordained as priestesses too, but I do not see that as happening in my lifetime if it ever happens. That would be one few things I'd consider bigger than the priesthood going to blacks (that and calling missionaries back). The most likely changes I see would be temple related, but I do not see one that would be as big as the priesthood going to blacks. I suppose the recent inclusion of small temples was quite significant, but I don't see it as being on par with the priesthood going to blacks. I mean, we're talking about a reversal in policy that was often considered doctrine more or less.
