Technically, you're right. Here, for example, is one of those "technicalities":

I can't speak for certain, as I wasn't present during the disciplinary council that considered his case. (Nor was he, for that matter.)
But I have it from a reliable source that his stake president was aware of his actively homosexual lifestyle.
(bold emphasis added)
I think it's important to note the use of the phrase "actively homosexual lifestyle." Now, based on what we know both from Quinn himself, and from "character witnesses" such as Don Bradley, this is a completely brazen falsehood on DCP's part. It is very reminiscent of the same tactics which were used in the battle against Robert Ritner.
He has certainly stated flat-out that Quinn was excommunicated primarily for reasons other than his writings. And, he has also openly talked about the fact that Quinn was "out" as far as his homosexual lifestyle was concerned.
I don't think that you can find a quote where he has, precisely said, "Quinn was excommunicated for homosexuality."
He's covering his ass with the Church in that way.
However, he's skating on the thinnest ice he can possibly get away with.
Yes, I agree. The thing is, DCP has frequently insinuated that the homosexuality was the reason. The Good Professor has *never* listed any other possibility, and, in the end, is it even possible to
imagine some other reason for the ex'ing? So far as I'm aware, there are really only three possible reasons why Quinn was ex'ed:
1. His historical writings
2. Homosexual activity
3. Insubordination
Reason No. 1 is the reason most frequently cited by Quinn himself, and by people who are personally acquainted with the man. Reason No. 3 is the one offered up by Lavina Fielding Anderson's analysis of Quinn's ex'ing.
The source of Reason No. 2 is---and has always been---DCP. The Good Professor is the stinky fount from whence this false rumor came. Yes; DCP can perhaps claim that Quinn's sexual orientation was "widely known" (a highly questionable assertion), but his suggestion that sexual orientation was behind the Church court is mendacious, cheap, irresponsible, and malicious.
