"Recent"?
For any lurkers, the OP is an example of the tactics some apologists use to try to help doubting members hold onto the church.
They throw stuff out there, knowing it is totally irrelevant and completely discounted by modern research, laughable to experts, hoping someone will read it, not realize it is totally silliness, then relieve some doubts or questions.
It is an old, tiresome, and deceptive ploy.
In reality, I think this sort of thing supports the idea that the Book of Mormon is of Nineteenth century origin; it shows that years ago people, as crazy as it is, actually thought there were horses during Book of Mormon times in Mesoamerica.
Reminds me of lawyers who throw out stuff in trial they want the jury to hear but know it will be struck from the record.
