Maybe it should be a birthright. Many gays know they are gay at a very young age. And what "values" are these children taught in the church at a very young age? Anything that would be helpful for these children? I've been hearing my RM nephews making nasty comments about gays for the past 15 years now. IF they didn't learn it in church, they certainly didn't learn any better in church either. What would a fledgling gay child be learning? To be ashamed, to pretend, that he will never be accepted for what he really is by the Mormon community unless he lives a lie? Please, what are these values little Mormons learn at a very young age these days?
