joseph's myth states that it airs on March 27th (thanks joseph's myth).

In America people don't criticise each other's religion, but that doesn't mean the voters don't hold it against them. According to a poll*, one in four Americans has said they would be less likely to vote for a Mormon. And as Sweeney follows the campaign trail he finds a Republican party dominated by white evangelicals who can't stand Mitt Romney.

I have to try and find this on local TV.

BBC2 Tuesday evening 7.00pm GMT.
The BBC has an iPlayer which can be viewed either as an app or online. You don't get the programmes on there until the day after they've aired.

Yes, this is not going to end well.

Dan Peterson has been doing this for a while and every time, at least those that I am aware of, it has backfired.

For example, there was a recent article on the Huffington Post about DNA and American Indians. Dan tried to defend the Church by posting some links to the apologetic tripe put out ten years ago when this issue first hit hard. Unfortunately for Dan, another commenter was an academic experienced in the field of American Indian genetics. Yeah, Dan got his butt handed to him.

The Mormon Defense League seems to have been a resounding success...oh...wait a minute...

Dan does have real trouble publicly recognizing his own posterior when it is presented to him.

I agree, Doctor. Many more people should know about the folks at FAIR and their doings.

I'm sure the "Good Doctor" will inform us of all that's right and wrong in the world, but especially about what's right and wrong about Mormonism.

Oh, I don't know about that. I tend to focus more on Mopologetics. I have no beef with the good, Church-going TBMs. I wish them well.

My reaction was similar. That TIME Lightbox comment fiasco was the first thing that popped to mind. The few non-members who actually follow Mormon-related news, are not going to be won over by obsessive behavior of the kind demonstrated there.

With defenders like this, critics can rest easy, their cause is in good hands.

Do you remember when this type of grass-roots effort was used to make Gordon B. Hinckley the reader's choice for Time magazine's Man of the Century? I doubt Mormons flooding blogs with their on-line antics will turn out being a good thing for the Church.

Lol. Did anybody bother to read the "Code of Conduct" for Mormon Voices? I.e., if you sign up to be a volunteer for their censorship mob, you have to agree to follow by their Orwellian rules:

http://mormonvoices.org/signup/

Some of the requirements are classic:

9. I will inform MormonVoices of public statement of concern by public figures and the media so that MormonVoices can track how the Church is represented in the media, can formulated official responses, and can inform other MormonVoices members of incidents where a "Chorus of Voices" would be helpful.

This is like Skinny-L on a somewhat wider scale. Nice, though, isn't it, how they are breeding a "tattle-tale" culture here?

This is a good one, too:

10. I will not at any time utilize my membership at MormonVoices to denigrate or thwart the public efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its leadership, doctrine, or practices, or to help or sustain any of its critics or detractors such that the effectiveness of MormonVoice's [sic] efforts is weakened.

13. I agree that I will notify MormonVoices leadership of any known violations of this code of conduct by other MormonVoices members by sending an email to abuse@mormonvoices.org

7. I will at all times publicly support the state positions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on matters of public import as expressed in General Conference addresses, Official Statements by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, and statements issued by authorized Church Public Affairs representatives.

This is some pretty hard-core stuff. But it strikes me that the whole Mormon Voices programme is deeply problematic, afflicted with Scott Gordon's very special brand of boobishness. Check out this bit of advice from the "Communication Guidelines":

Try not to sound like a whiner. Instead offer constructive suggestions in a helpful manner.

And this:

Stay away from “absolute words.” For instance, don’t use words like “always,” “never,” or “every.” When you use such words, your point can be easily disregarded by finding a single exception.

http://mormonvoices.org/communication-guidelines

What, you mean, like, the Church was never racist towards blacks?

I've got to hand it to Lynch, Gordon, Peterson & co. This stuff is utterly priceless. Even if I wanted to, there is no way I ever could have dreamed up something as hilarious as this.
