Lol. Did anybody bother to read the "Code of Conduct" for Mormon Voices? I.e., if you sign up to be a volunteer for their censorship mob, you have to agree to follow by their Orwellian rules:
http://mormonvoices.org/signup/Some of the requirements are classic:
9. I will inform MormonVoices of public statement of concern by public figures and the media so that MormonVoices can track how the Church is represented in the media, can formulated official responses, and can inform other MormonVoices members of incidents where a "Chorus of Voices" would be helpful.
This is like Skinny-L on a somewhat wider scale. Nice, though, isn't it, how they are breeding a "tattle-tale" culture here?
This is a good one, too:
10. I will not at any time utilize my membership at MormonVoices to denigrate or thwart the public efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its leadership, doctrine, or practices, or to help or sustain any of its critics or detractors such that the effectiveness of MormonVoice's [sic] efforts is weakened.
13. I agree that I will notify MormonVoices leadership of any known violations of this code of conduct by other MormonVoices members by sending an email to
abuse@mormonvoices.org
7. I will at all times publicly support the state positions of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on matters of public import as expressed in General Conference addresses, Official Statements by the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, and statements issued by authorized Church Public Affairs representatives.
This is some pretty hard-core stuff. But it strikes me that the whole Mormon Voices
programme is deeply problematic, afflicted with Scott Gordon's very special brand of boobishness. Check out this bit of advice from the "Communication Guidelines":
Try not to sound like a whiner. Instead offer constructive suggestions in a helpful manner.
And this:
Stay away from “absolute words.” For instance, don’t use words like “always,” “never,” or “every.” When you use such words, your point can be easily disregarded by finding a single exception.
http://mormonvoices.org/communication-guidelinesWhat, you mean, like, the Church was never racist towards blacks?
I've got to hand it to Lynch, Gordon, Peterson & co. This stuff is utterly priceless. Even if I wanted to, there is no way I ever could have dreamed up something as hilarious as this.
"[I]f, while hoping that everybody else will be honest and so forth, I can personally prosper through unethical and immoral acts without being detected and without risk, why should I not?." --Daniel Peterson, 6/4/14
