First of all, masturbation has a negative connotation. In the academic world we refer to it as 'solitary sex'. I think that this has a more positive connotation. When one masturbates, they are basically having sex with themselves in a solitary fashion. If one thinks deeply about this, one can see that it can perhaps be perfectly natural to have sex with yourself, especially if it is made into an erotic experience. Now, the word masturbation has a more x-rated connotation than solitary sex. Solitary sex is like watching a soft porn movie with a woman director but masturbation is more hardcore.
