Isn’t it worth investing some time to search your heart and ask in fervent prayer if it’s true? And even if it’s not true, Scientologists have really happy fulfilling lives.

Isn’t it worth investing some time to search your heart and ask in fervent prayer if it’s true? And even if it’s not true, Scientologists have really happy fulfilling lives.

I'm aware of the fact that Mormonism and Scientology are often compared by non-believers as being similar in some respects. I get that. I think, however, that there are some qualitative differences in the two. The main one being that the CofJCofLDS and the fruits thereof seem to lead individuals and families in a direction and way of life that I see as being much more healthy and positive, in all respects, compared to Scientology.

If you believe otherwise, that is your prerogative.

Are there some 'hard things' in Mormonism? Sure. But I think that most sound minded people would agree that Scientology is really cultish. Not NEAR as many would say that about their Mormon neighbors down the street.

You think differently, no argument there, do you feel differently? I'm not convinced you feel the Book of Mormon is such a spectacular book, given your neglect of reading it a half hour a day. If I believed a book was the most correct on the face of the earth I would read it 1/2 a day without someone needing to tell me to do it.

I admit I'm speculating somewhat on your motives. I take into account what you say, but I also think about the believers in my life. In my mind, there's a big difference between feeling like you're supposed to feel the Book of Mormon is the most correct book on the face of the earth, and actually feeling like the Book of Mormon is the most correct book on the face of the earth. A lot of Mormons I knew, even myself when I was active, felt guilty at times for not reading it. A lot of people feel guilty, then with all their might commit themselves to reading, and it all falls apart three days later. They know they're supposed to feel over the moon about the Book of Mormon, but they just don't feel that way. Feeling like you're supposed to feel a certain way, and saying you feel that way when you don't, is different than actually feeling a certain way and behavior is consistent with the reported feelings.

Also, since its beginning Scientology has welcomed people that are black into their fold. The LDS gave basic membership but non blacks had far more privilege including leadership.

The only thing scientology scores big on is how they go after apostates after they leave the fold, and per media reports, it can get excessive.

Scientology has a history of dealing with the IRS. Mormonism has a history of dealing with the IRS, the US military and law enforcement.

Thank you Mag’ladroth for the information. I need to ask: did this conspiracy bring indictments, were there any convictions and was any individual in Scientology sentenced to prison or did they agree on a settlement.

I would say this is nothing compared to 1850, 7 years before the Mountain Meadows Massacre, when Brigham Young gave an order that certain ingenious tribes were to be eliminated. There was the Battle at Fort Utah incident where Mormon men attacked a local tribe, executed the men and then cut some of the deceased heads off and put them in certain spots before the the prisoners, women and children who were captured, and who later were sold as slaves to local Mormon population.

That's because Mormons pretend to a normal life, keep their neighbors' eyes away from what bizarre activities go on in the Mormon temple, etc., while Scientology is more transparent and revealed in society. But try again; it's fun batting away at all the home-run pitches you throw.
