I've wondered about that, huckelberry. In spite of all of the talk by members about how the leaders are only human and fallible, I suspect that anything other than swift unanimity could be a cause for concern among the members.
All is well.

There will be those that will have to 'wrestle' with the change in leadership. That has always been so. But as has always been the case since the beginning days of the restoration, the church will move on in each generation of saints and accomplish its destiny/purpose/mission. There will be nothing that can stop that from happening. That is a given.

Critics and apostacy notwithstanding.

You make a good point, however. Those that are sucked into and/or find themselves in a 'comfort zone' of either carnal security, spiritual apathy, or fall prey to the adversary's modes of deception will find themselves out of the mainstream of the church. That is, those that feel called to serve and are walking in discipleship of Christ and following in His ways...repenting daily.

As far as I know (and I'm sure that you'll correct me if needed) there's nothing to say that the mainstream of the [LDS] church is immune. Aren't the saints also told to beware of spiritual wickedness in high places? Again, nothing to say that the wicked are not church leaders, and the complacent are not regular church members who are so sure that they are the righteous ones, the ones who have chosen the right, and cannot be led astray?

Anyway, you're sure that you are right, so that's OK.

Most assuredly.

They are not perfect. They are fallible. They make mistakes. But are they wicked? I really don't think so. I can't name one that is anyway.

As I said, if a person is repenting daily, they...by default...recognize the fact that 'all men/women' are sinners and have need to kneel before their Maker and pray for strength do better and be better each day.

As I said on another thread recently, anyone that takes their eye off the ball can be led astray.

New First Presidency interview:

Each one of these men has a sincere testimony of the Savior and our relationship to Him and our Heavenly Father.

The church moves forward and is in capable hands.

Fibber,

The church is definitely moving forward. The question is, are they moving forward to the future, or just to the next century's exhibit on 1950s theology? Remember, the Titanic had a very sincere captain, too.

When the G15 start ministering in power to the drug addicted, mentally ill, homeless, prostitutes in downtown SLC, I might be impressed they have something. (2 Corinthians 12:12) And I invite anyone with claims of "apostleship" from any religious group to likewise take up the challenge. The SLC "apostles" are just pretenders with no apostolic power (greek: dunamis.) Lots of money. A "nice, holy" verneer. But no apostolic power. (2 Cor 11:13-15)

Who does Jane Clayson Johnson work for (i.e., which media outlet), and how did she secure an exclusive interview? (I understand that the Salt Lake Tribune has been requesting an interview.) Did she prepare her questions in consultation with church officials?

A few things I noticed:

1. Some quick cuts. For example at 8:21, 12:24, and 13:09. What was cut out?

2. Eyring prophesies at 13:01 that the growth of the church will accelerate. Mark it, brother Christofferson.

3. Johnson says there’s something special, different, and unique about this generation. Asked for his message to the rising generation, Eyring said, “Congratulations, the Lord saved you for the most exciting time in the history of his work in this world.” I remember when church leaders described my generation as special and chosen. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

4. Eyring and Christofferson seemed very reluctant to go beyond things that Oaks had said.

5. Oaks’ hands were shaking at times (e.g., 00:01:03).

6. Johnson asked no questions about temple-building, LGBTQ issues (including Oaks’ 1984 memo, his sermons, the Policy of Exclusion, and the church’s campaigns against gay marriage), Trump and Putin, political events and division around the world, war and conflict (including Israel-Gaza), nuclear weapons, famine and starvation, racism and the priesthood and temple ban, church history problems and coverups, the activity rate in the church, figures on people having their names removed from church records, church finances, the SEC scandal, gerontocracy in the church, sexual abuse problems in the church, Oaks’ call for more disciplinary councils, the history and activities of the Strengthening Church Members Committee, recent changes in the temple ceremony and garments, the doctrine of polygamy, and the historicity of the scriptures.
