By way of trivia, Mike Norton credits me for his apostasy. It all started when he was researching the Mark Hofmann forgeries and came across my other website.Whiskey wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 3:18 amI am a softy. Mike Norton, oddly, had a lot of traction in a lot of spaces. It was weird. Very weird.

Me too. Nightlion sent me a copy of his book many years ago, even though I am not a believer, an act which I found touching and incredibly kind on his part. May he rest in peace.

Ha! Mel Tungate. I haven't thought much about in years. He was active on the original message board that I think came out of BYU called Mormon-l, if I remember correctly. Remember that one? Before ZLMB.malkie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 12:31 amPrompted by some of the (off-topic) back and forth starting around p28 on the God can write straight with crooked lines thread, and not very coherent memories of NOM, FLAK, and earlier incarnations of this board, I wondered if anyone else was feeling nostalgic.
I have some memories that are probably best re-buried, but some really fond ones too. Some posters were incredibly kind to me in the early days of my disaffection, and provided me with more comfort than I could ever express.
I came across a couple of DMs from Nurse in Black, Kate Hepburn, Sacred Sister, and the incomparable Dathon, and realised the extent to which I was drowning back then, mostly due to being married to a TBM and having no idea how things were going to work out - or if they were. I'm happy to say that we have more than survived, but it was iffy for a while.
Was it Belaja who wielded the "FU" stick? She is someone else I have reason to be grateful to.
What about Mel and Korihor? Solistics? Froggie? Lots of others too. Whenever I make banana bread, I use Froggie's recipe!
A guy who had left the church, Preston I believe, was a 'good egg' that participated on Mormon-l along with Tungate and others. That was my first experience on a message board. Honestly, it was a lot more fun than this one. People didn't pile up on others. People were civil.
If I'm remembering, Froggie was on NOM. That was a good board. Yep, some nostalgia for the days before things went more in the direction of silo building and protection/defense. And doing anything to get rid of the 'outlier'.
I guess we have Trump to blame for it.
Regards,
MG

Mike Norton seems like a sociopath. A narcisisstic jackass at very least. I don't like him. But at least he put a few good videos of the temple rituals out there.Dr. Shades wrote: ↑Wed Jan 07, 2026 9:45 amBy way of trivia, Mike Norton credits me for his apostasy. MG, do you remember KevinSim? He was a believer and seemed like a gentle soul, and participated in a few of the more esoteric discussions about theology, if memory serves me well. I can’t speak to his activity outside of this board but he was pretty active on DM for a while.
