why me wrote:People who are envious of those who are out there having sex with many partners do not understand that sex does not exactly lead to happiness.
Why is it always you and fiann who seem so fixated on sex. When it comes to happiness, I think they understand quite well, just as people can understand that many other fun nice things or activities are not necessarily going to lead to long lasting happiness. Nothing in life is going to make people happy all the time. Sex is a fun activity, and I know many if not most converts who had plenty before converting don't appear to really regret it.
Many youth are contacting diseases from sex. And some young girls get pregnant. And when one does catch herpes or HIV the virus with that person until death.
So? It is irrelevant to the OP. We all know their are potential consequences to having sex, even for married people. Religion does not try to control sexual activity of it's members becuase of any physical consequences that may result of sexual activity. Masturbation is the safest form of sexual activity, and is healthy, yet many religions including LDS view it as sinful behavior. This to is an activity that some members will be envious of friends being able to enjoy guilt free.
We tend not to think of the consequences of our actions but we can be envious of the free spirit just as the free spirit can be envious of a different lifestyle.
My experience does not support the free spirit being as envious of more constrained people, especially religiously constrained. Free spirits can also recognize the many physical consequences of certain actions, and avoid or take steps to greatly reduce the risk. Think of Mountain climbing. It certainly is more risky then most sports, but can be very fun, enjoyable and safe if done right.
