And what does this have to do with what I wrote above? The people involved reacted as best as they could in their circumstances and knowledge. And that was my point. Now if they were doctors and nurses that would be different.
"They best they could" would be to call 911 immediately. Unfortunately they had too much faith in priesthood blessings and probably contributed to the death of a man.
Mormonism kills.
I'm not sure that it is fair to heap all of the blame on either Mormonism or the elders who decided to give the man a blessing instead of calling 911.
I have always been taught that you are to seek out medical attention first, and that a priesthood blessing goes hand in hand with proper medical care, never instead of it.
Those brethren obviously made a horrible judgment call. As Consig indicated earlier in the thread, if I were them, I would carry a tremendous amount of guilt around with me for the rest of my life.
However, as Why Me pointed out, human situations are complicated. The man who had the heart attack, who was a competent adult, asked for the blessing. Now, I agree that the men should have insisted on medical attention first. However, maybe they didn't realize that the situation was as dire as it was? If the man insisted that he was OK and wanted a blessing first, I can see how something like this might happen.
All of this being said, LDST, it is a horrible tragedy, and I am certainly sorry for the loss of your friend.
