Come watch my new video— “Did Anyone See the Empty Stone Box? A Response to Josh Gehly” – premieres on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, at 7 pm Mountain Time. This video critically assesses Josh Gehly’s claim that the empty stone box remained exposed for decades after Joseph Smith removed the plates in 1827.

Yup! And his fellow apologists are eating it up.

Hope springs eternal, I guess. Have you ever read Umberto Eco's
Baudolino? I am so often reminded of his account of the Holy Grail when I encounter LDS apologetics on gold-plates-related stuff.

I enjoyed Vogel's scholarship and his rebuttal.
The Missing Box is a real problem. The specially prepared stone box made of New York stone and the hole in which old Moroni dug out with his own sweat and tears was simply left by Joe-blow who didn't give a rat's ass about the sacred spot of ground upon which he knelt while beholding an angel of light. He left no marker, no stake, no monument, no nothing. The whole story about the plates and box is just another made up story just like you read about in the Book of Mormon,
this, being a prime example.
