But life without parole doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility that one's life may be saved by eventually being proven innocent and being released before dying.Whiskey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 9:02 pmLife without parole shares these risks.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 8:59 pmBecause there have been documented cases of people found to have been innocent only after having been already executed. Studies have shown that as much as 10% of incarcerated people, including even on death row, are actually innocent of the crimes for which they were incarcerated. There is no denying the fact that there have been rare cases of innocent people being executed. Some argue that these cases are extremely rare, but I don't care how rare they are. If it can happen even once, either through honest mistake or malice by corrupt officials refusing to admit having been mistaken or having some vendetta against the condemned, that is, to me, an argument against capital punishment that Trump's any conceivable argument in favor of it!

No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

No clue. I don't follow that guy. Just saying there will be more of this. A lot more.

May be worse though. Life without parole doesn't share equal appeal process. And, life without hope or parole may be worse than death.

It’s easier to mount a challenge to a perceived wrongful incarceration when you’re still alive.Whiskey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 9:02 pmLife without parole shares these risks.Gunnar wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 8:59 pm

Comment on the site's auto-correct function. Apparently whenever anyone types in the verb "trumps" the auto-correct function insists on correcting it to "Trump's". This is unnecessary overkill, don't you think?

Exactly! This is the more important consideration, I think.

You do NOT want a death penalty case.Whiskey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 17, 2025 4:53 pmI am a big fan of capital punishment. Doesn't seem even mildly more cruel than life without parole.
If prosecutors weren't so damned corrupt and judges weren't retards we would have more appropriate judicial outcomes.
Also. Sex offenders who hurt kids can be given a capital punishment. That is fine.

Seems it may be easier to mount an appeal from death row than from wherever the LWOP folks are.
ETA: a brief google and AI search showed massive and significant differences in the appeal process for LWOP and Death Row. Advantage Death Row.

See! It just happened again with this post! trumps trumps trumps. There is, after all a legitimate verb "Trump" in the English language that is not capitalized! Is this yet another weird manifestation of TDS?
