The next insurrection:

The next insurrection: They don't have the votes, but they've got the guns
The assault on the Capitol is already damaging to the Republican Party image, at least to outsiders. The Capitol was attacked by a violent mob of Trump supporters. It's doubtful there were any Democrats among them. The assault took place immediately after a Trump rally on the Ellipse and was incited by the then-president. Several Republican members of Congress joined Trump in addressing the crowd, along with other famous party stalwarts like Rudy Giuliani. It was a Republican rally with a Republican crowd. So was the mob at the Capitol.

Republican members of Congress know it was their supporters out there beating down the doors of the Capitol, ransacking the well of the Senate and looting congressional offices. Republicans don't want to investigate the violence at the Capitol because they want to leave the door open for it to happen again.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I find this very worrisome and even dangerous to our democracy. It really seems that the current Republican party is increasingly hell bent on somehow gaining the power to deny the legitimacy and fairness of any election in which Republicans did not get the majority of the vote, even by outright armed insurrection if necessary.
They can read the polls showing how popular Democratic issues are, including improved access to health care, the pandemic rescue bill, the infrastructure bill and the American Family Plan. How many calls have you heard Republicans make lately for repealing Obamacare? How many speeches have you heard them make saying we don't need to spend money on crumbling bridges, obsolete airports and ancient, failing mass transit like the Long Island Railroad or the Chicago Transit Authority or the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority? They don't dare oppose spending that is in any way grounded in reality. All they can come up with is screaming about "socialism" and "Democratic Party wish-lists," because their constituents drive across cracking bridges and commute on failing transit systems and pay a third of their income on rent and a third on child care and way more than they can afford on health care.

Electorally, Republicans are hanging on by their fingernails. In 2020, in the midst of the worst pandemic since 1918, before a single American had received a life-saving vaccination, with 230,000 already dead from the coronavirus and more deaths on the way, voters turned out in record numbers. And Republicans lost. They lost the White House. They lost the House of Representatives. After a runoff election, they lost control of the Senate. They did well locally in Republican-controlled states, maintaining control of state houses and governorships, but they lost ground in the areas where the country is growing. They lost the big cities. They lost the suburbs. They lost in population centers in the South and Midwest and West. They lost in the places where people are moving, where young people are getting jobs when they graduate from college, where many seniors are choosing to retire.

After the 2020 election, Gallup found in a December poll that 31 percent of Americans identified as Democrats, 25 percent as Republicans and 41 percent as independents. When independents were asked whether they were "Democratic leaners" or "Republican leaners," 50 percent said they leaned Democratic, and 39 percent leaned Republican. These were not good numbers for the Republican Party. Nobody knows better than Republicans that there are fewer of them than there are of us.
Consequently:
The Republican Party has reached the point where it does not recognize the legitimacy of elections unless it wins them. Democratic political victories are per se illegitimate in Republican eyes. Republicans are lapping up their own lawlessness and ramping up the insanity. They are turning right-wing lunatics like Kyle Rittenhouse into folk heroes. He is the shooter in Kenosha, Wisconsin, who killed two people and wounded a third during Black Lives Matter protests following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Republican state legislatures in Oklahoma and Iowa have passed laws granting immunity to drivers who hit protesters with their cars during demonstrations on public streets. Multiple states already have laws allowing both open and concealed carry of firearms without a license, with more such laws on the way.

These are the kinds of laws that not only allow insurrection, but encourage it. The Proud Boys and the Three Percenters and the Oath Keepers and their ilk aren't the right's political fringe anymore. They are the Republican base — and the Republican future.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I feel bad for our children and grandchildren who will have to cope with the effects of global warming and Trump Republicanism. The Trump Republicans live in enough of a separate reality that coexistence will make their lives unbearable.

Reality doesn't give a damn if you acknowledge it; it will catch up to you.

The GOP is a cancer, and it will kill if it goes untreated. Pretending you don't have cancer doesn't matter to the cancer. In fact, cancer thrives when it goes unchecked.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense.

The god idea is popular with desperate people.

So if Republicans questioning the legitimacy of the 2020 election is an existential threat to our democracy, does that make Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats who questioned the legitimacy of the 2016 election a threat to our democracy? And the unarmed supporters who entered the capitol were not responsible for a single law enforcement officers death. Do you realize the New York Times has retracted it's claim that Officer Brian Sicknick was killed by capital protesters. This lie was promoted by the media to be able to say this was a violent insurrection? Really? How many people died from it? How much property damage was actually done? How long was the government actually out of commission due to this coup? Antifa arsonists corralled officers into a government building in Portland and set it ablaze? How is that not an insurrection?

No Democrats amongst the rioters? What about the Obama loyalists' in the FBI deep state who had infiltrated the group? Do you realize that the ringleaders for the so called assasination plot of Gretchen Whitmer were FBI undercover agents?

Consider Asheligh Babbit. An unarmed woman trespassing is shot and killed. The Biden DOJ refuses to give up the officers name or investigate. Now imagine if Bill Barr and Donald Trump refused to give up the name of an officer who shot an unarmed left wing trespasser at a protest as Joe Biden and Chris Wray are doing now.

Now let's consider the conditions in prison of those who illegally entered the capital? They're in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, defended by public defenders who admittedly hate Donald Trump and anyone who voted for him. And even these biased worthlesss attorneys want a retainer of at least $50k. Breakfast is served at 3am. They're forbidden from singing "God Bless America." Their activist "attorneys," are in a deprogramming effort where they're pressured to read leftist propaganda, confess their white privilege, and admit their guilt in voting for Donald Trump. Leftist DC judges like Emmitt Till will keep them in jail to languish without a trial until the 2022 midterms in an attempt to help Democrat election chances against any congressman who questioned what role voter fraud might have played in the 2020 election. It's all a means to bully and intimidate anyone who might be a threat to the Democrat voter fraud machine to which Biden's handlers currently owe their grip on power.

And as the left gains power to control elections through fear, intimidation, and passes more crooked laws, the two tiered justice system in this country depending on your political affiliation is going to get more stark as the left gets more powerful. There will be no next insurrection. You have to be a country with free and fair elections to have an insurrection and the US no longer qualifies.

Ajax, you have included too many falsehoods in your post. A judicious use of falsehoods would be better, or you will make Trump look frugal in his use of falsehoods.

I wish it weren't true. If Trump were an authoritarian fascist we'd be in a much different situation now. As it is, it's the left that is weaponizing government institutions and even corporate America to censor, cancel, bankrupt, lock up, and even assasinate any political opposition who doesn't vote in accordance with the social justice woke thought police.

There were Trump supporters that acted poorly on January 6. But as we peel back the layers of the onion, we're starting to see that January 6, is looking a lot more like an inside job. How exactly did Donald Trump incite the riot when the prosecution is admitting that people were plotting to riot weeks before Trump even gave his speech? Who exactly set up these pipe bombs? Why was it reported that this happened and yet still nobody has been charged? How is January 6, 2021 anything close to 9/11/2001 in number of death, destruction or even close to the Oklahoma City bombing or any number of radical Islamic terrorist mass shootings? We're becoming more like the USSR every day. Political opinion has been criminalized. Anyone who doesn't believe in heavy taxes upon the working class with an enormous welfare state and open borders must be silenced, lose their job, or even locked up.

Oh, has Emmett Till resurrected himself from his murder at the hands of a couple of good ol’ boys in 1955, to take up a judgeship in modern-day DC?

Yes. Many, many hundreds of them.

But as we peel back the layers of the onion, we're starting to see that January 6, is looking a lot more like an inside job.
No, it’s not. That’s why you have nothing to show for this claim.

How exactly did Donald Trump incite the riot when the prosecution is admitting that people were plotting to riot weeks before Trump even gave his speech?
Because he riled up his followers for two solid months beforehand with constant talk of a so-called fraudulent election, then tweeted during the whole month prior specifically about how folks should show up and ‘fight’ on the 6th:

Dec. 12: "Wow! Thousands of people forming in Washington (D.C.) for Stop the Steal. Didn’t know about this, but I’ll be seeing them! #MAGA."

Dec. 12: "WE HAVE JUST BEGUN TO FIGHT!!!"

Dec. 18: “We won the Presidential Election, by a lot. FIGHT FOR IT. Don’t let them take it away!"

Dec. 19: "A great report by Peter. Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election. Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!"

Dec. 26: "The ‘Justice’ Department and the FBI have done nothing about the 2020 Presidential Election Voter Fraud, the biggest SCAM in our nation’s history, despite overwhelming evidence. They should be ashamed. History will remember. Never give up. See everyone in D.C. on January 6th."

Dec. 27: "See you in Washington, DC, on January 6th. Don’t miss it. Information to follow!"

Jan. 1: "The BIG Protest Rally in Washington, D.C., will take place at 11.00 A.M. on January 6th. Locational details to follow. StopTheSteal!"

Who exactly set up these pipe bombs?
Trump supporters.

Why was it reported that this happened and yet still nobody has been charged?
They didn’t write their name and address on the pipe bomb, nor tweet a pic of themselves holding it on the grounds of the Capitol building, like some of the other brilliant protesters who live-streamed themselves breaking in but then when arrested (oops!) claimed that it was all just an antifa hoax.

How is January 6, 2021 anything close to 9/11/2001 in number of death, destruction or even close to the Oklahoma City bombing or any number of radical Islamic terrorist mass shootings?
It’s not. Unlike 9/11, when we were attacked by nutcase foreign dickheads with a box knife to grind, on Jan 6 we were attacked by butthurt nutcase American citizens who couldn’t understand why their candidate was voted out of office for spending 4 years stirring people up to do dumbshiite crackhead actions like attack the freakin’ Capitol.

Painfully obvious what the problem is and why Trump lost, dontcha think, after his followers spastically devolved into a mass tantrum that day, right?

We're becoming more like the USSR every day.
No, we’re not. That’s why you have nothing to show for this claim. Go and visit Russia, and get a clue.

Political opinion has been criminalized.
No, it hasn’t. That’s why you have nothing to show for this claim.

Anyone who doesn't believe in heavy taxes upon the working class with an enormous welfare state and open borders must be silenced, lose their job, or even locked up.
This is something that someone not grounded in any sensible reality would claim. That’s why you have nothing to show for this one, either.

JFC, ajax. You guys need to grow up and accept the fact that your candidate didn’t win the popular vote in either election, and that folks got tired of his crap on an epic scale by the time Election Day 2020 rolled around, precisely because Trump spent 4 years of his time (and even now) turning marginal partisan hotheads into insurrectionist fools for no reality-based reason.

Own it, already.

People who defend themselves from death or serious bodily injury are right-wing lunatics?
